Person projects Gabbert (5 weeks out)

I saw the headline in the Rock Hill Herald and I thought, "Finally Gantt has opened his mind a bit to realize that Cam Newton is not the only possibly QB in the draft." Last week, when the Panthers went to Mo. and had a private workout with Gabbert, something I thought was newsworthy, Gantt steals Gabbert's thunder by printing a front-pager about how Dan Reeves thinks we should take Cam.

Not newsworthy. Who cares what Reeves thinks? I feel that Gantt is so biased (A Edwards last year) that he makes a statement early and spends the rest of the time trying to campaign for the player he endorses.

This reminded me of the time the news was to be released that Clinton lied about Monica Lewinski and he ordered some country like Libya bombed.

Then I read that Person wrote the article. It all fell into place.

he didnt steal anybody's thunder. i do want a qb and if Gabbert is the man, il be content with him.

Think about it before you say Gantt didn't steal Gabbert's thunder. At the very least he pimped Newton because he didn't think Gabbert was in the picture at that time; he said so. The Gabbert workout was an AP news release. The Reeves article was crafted by a Charlotte reporter about a retired coach who was never affiliated with the Panthers. Cam photo and big headlines. Front page news? Hell No. News at all? Hell no. Timing--the day Gabbert works out--coincidence? Hell no.

I agree with the QB comment. I would also be content with Newton if we take him, but how many articles have you seen from Gantt on Gabbert?

It was interesting that someone at the Observer is now behind Gabbert.

Out of curosity, how do you feel about trading down and drafting Ponder, Locker, Kaepernick, or even Mallett (doubtful) in the second round? Is the difference between the top 2 and these QBs that huge?

Media conspiracy theories are lame.

As a reporter, shouldnt he cover all of the top candidates we might draft? Look at his history--a dozen Cam articles, a few about fairley, Peterson, etc. NONE about Gabbert.

If everything they write gives everyone on here ammo, then it is worth looking at the validity and objectivity of the source of info.

Nobody has to like it.

    • After the Chiefs game a 6'5 X would really help in the Red zone. I would also love to add Slayton in FA
    • But again, you can restock a defense through free agency much easier than offensive skill positions. Spend all our cap space on defense, take a true elite prospect who also happens to fit a position of need in T-Mac, and then use the rest of our picks on defense. Again, every season there’s a smattering of great DL, LB, and DB options in free agency, a Top 10 WR never hits free agency, ever.  The only way you get one is through the draft or giving up 1st round picks in a trade for one. If he’s there when we’re on the clock, he has to be the pick, he’s just that good.
    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.
