It was my understanding there was some issue with the language of the contract that was offered before, not the money involved. Uh ok, fix the damn language, structure it how gross wants and lets move on.

AMEN. if they realy want him hear fix to how gross wants it. if the moneys right that shouldnt be a big deal.

It makes no sense to have to franchise Gross if he wants to be here as he says. So why would we have to franchise a guy we want to sign long term and supposed wants to be signed long term. We should tag Peppers and get something for him. And if Gross doesn't sign or we let him walk, then I would rather get nothing for him than nothing for Peppers.

well said, to let peppers walk for nothing would be a disaster.

so you would rather someone proven (gross) walk and tag peppers so that we can get draft picks to hopefully improve the defense while letting our offense suffer?????? After our offensive line did so well last year, 20 sacks and 3rd in the league in rushing. You would rather the cornerstone of your offensive line leave and have a pretty good chance of messing up some awesome oline chemistry, let that go to waste over the possibility of improving the Defense with picks???? Doesn't sound too bright too me.

Getting a couple of picks in return for two stars when you can keep one of them for sure with a tag if a deal doesn't get done soon enough, while with the other player all your getting is the possibility of draft picks in a weak defensive class. A 1st 3rd and a 5th is what gross and peppers is worth to you?????? If it comes down to it this team has to Tag gross, it can't possibly lose him, while we've already lost peppers. Question is do we get something for him or not, either way gross has to stay. He's much more important to this team at the moment then peppers can ever be again.

Lets say we can get a 1st and a 3rd round pick for Peppers... Good

So we have to decide if we want

1+3 draft pick and let Gross walk ( its a strong OT class this year )

or

Let Peppers walk and have Gross one a one year contract ( which is much more than the rookie we could draft ) Do we do this it will mean we for to offseasons in a row could not agree with Gross.. So why should we assume we can get a deal next yearr? There is no cap and some teams are gonna go crazy next offseason.

I would much rather have Gross on this team. BUT to throw a 1+3 pick out the window for Gross on a one year contract..? Nahh no thanks..

Gross on a long term deal is more valuable than a 1+3 but not Gross on a one year contract.

I was thinking much the same thing.

We had to tag Gross last year because we could not get a deal done. Now, if we end up in the same situation this year (looking more and more likely), then there is more of an issue with Gross that most want to admit.

We have a history of making very good offeres to players we value...even to Peppers. If we have not gotten a deal done in two years, that tells me that Gross has sig over-valued his worth. I question as to whether we would get a deal done after next season...if we franchised Gross again.

Letting Peppers walk and tagging Gross really puts the Panthers in a bad situation. Got nothing for Pep and still only have Gross for a 1 year deal.

Gross said he wants to stay here and it isn't about the money. Yet we have been trying to sign him to a long term deal for over a year.

Sorry, Gross. I'm calling bullshit on your excuses. Gross is trying to pull poo over on the fans.

I'm starting to get pissed at him.

Keep in mind that when the money was right but the language was wrong Gross was a right tackle. Now he is a pro-bowl left tackle. Whatever the money and language of last year's offer was it isn't good enough now. That is why this thing is taking so long with him. The front office had to start over with contract talks on this, not just change the language of last years offer.

i look at it this way, there's many way overpaid players in the NFL these days...s#it happens.....many of them are the guys that had a great year here and there and then just don't give 100% after they get paid! So if we have to pay some extra cash to Gross to sign him... DO IT! then get the best trade you can for Peppers and move on! I don't think all off us will ever get over Peppers and him not being a Panther but "it is what it is".... he don't want to be here, its his option so lets draft the best avail. from his trade and MOVE ON!

Here is what I think is happening. The Panthers are talking to other teams about a trade the will get something like a 1st and 4th for Pep. If they are not able to get that then depending on Gross is what will determine what we get. There is NO WAY we let him walk. Hell you can get a 2rd for him from just about any team.

Scenario 1: Gross signs

We will trade Peppers for a 1st and a 4th only. No negotiating. If no one accepts, then we tag him on Wednesday evening and if someone wants to pony up two 1st rounders then see ya Pep.

Scenario 2: Gross does not sign by Wednesday Morning

We will tag Gross and now we will have to accept negotiating terms and will probably get like a 2nd and 5th for him and bam he will be gone but we will have been able to get something for him.

If Scenario 2 happens, I would love Peppers getting shipped to the f'ing Detroit Lions and we can give a big KISS OUR ASS to him.
