Let's begin! (First 5 picks)

Round 1 / Pick 1 Blaine Gabbert QB Missouri

In the end, Shula, Chud, Rivera, & Hurney (most importantly) will want a day one starter if they grab a QB in the draft and Gabbert is the only QB that is. He does have flaws, but they are flaws that can be corrected unlike what I believe we are experiencing in Clausen. A few important words have come up on nearly every report on his meetings with teams: comfortable, leader, deep accuracy, & hair. Also...I'd like to briefly mention the touchiest subject: Honestly as much as I like Newton as a player, he's not starting material on day one. It just makes no sense spending a number one on him.

As long as our staff comes to the conclusion that Blaine can start for us from the get-go, I say the pick is a very close to a lock. I've been a major proponent for either Dareus, Green, or Peterson...but honestly our coaches are trying to find the face of this franchise year 1, right now, and this is how you do it. We could wait out with vets for a talent that will most likely be in 2012-2014 draft, but we (1) most likely will not be getting Luck (2) The first talent to consider will most likely be Matt Barkley and that could be a reach. So are you really ok with avoiding a QB in this draft so at the best we get a Barkley, Brantley, or Pryor? These are the real names not being mentioned that actually mean a lot. I say take the shot now...the kids got the tools and many to most mechanics down, really strong deep ball accuracy, and is supposedly a great teammate. I just cannot be convinced that we won't pick him at this point especially considering he not only fits our offense but has run both the spread and pro-style.

Round 3 / Pick 65 Curtis Brown CB Texas

I think this is one of the lesser talked about strong CB prospects in this draft, I mean his own teammate Aaron Williams is ahead of him. Brown however has been an expected Top-60 pick for some time but with the emergence of Williams and the other ridiculous talent at this position, Brown could fall to us in a very nice way. Additionally his combine was not as fast as projected which could take effect. Brown could definitely be someone that could make Rivera's defensive coaching abilities really shine. He's the perfect type of CB for Rivera to groom at 6-0 /185 / 39.5 vertical!

Round 3 Pick 97 (From Julius) Kendrick Ellis DT Hampton

This guy is one of my favorite prospects in the entire draft. At 6'5" 346 he's actually considered one of the more complete DTs who can move pretty quick at the line and simply dominate. He's from Jamaica and originally was at South Carolina projected to be their big guy at DT. Unfortunately he was caught with some chron (I mean, he's from Jamaica) and ended up at Hampton where he has flat out dismantled his competition. He can play on the nose and at five-technique which is actually something Rivera maybe looking for considering his hybrid style 4-3 D with occasional elements of the 3-4. I say this kid could be the steal of the draft.

Round 4 Pick 98 Sione Fua DT Stanford

This may be my reach right now because this guy is rising, but in many places Fua is still projected a 4-5 round pick. Harbaugh was the man's coach and this kid gave Luck the time he needed to get it done, helping get that offense on the field more with great DT play. Let's go get em' if he's there. At 6-2 310, is lighter than Ellis so a little more flexible in some respects which will be a very nice contrast to have. 2 DTs in a row, find one more through the FA, & I like Landri.

Round 5 / Pick 129 Julius Thomas TE Portland St.

With all the talk about Jordan Cameron and Virgil Green rising up from the back rounds lies Julius Thomas, walk-on ex-basketball player from Portland, Oregon. This kid comes in at 6-5 248...can anyone say Winslow/Gates??? Our squad wants to find that project TE that can be coached up within a year and I'm telling you Thomas could definitely be it. His workouts have apparently been very impressive and his athleticism along with his size are showing he could be a dynamic TE.

Das end.

I would love this mock if it really happened.. but Curtis Brown is a solid 2nd round pick, and Kenderick Ellis is a high 3rd rounder. I don't think they will be available in either spot you have them selected.

Chimdi Chekwa from Ohio St, or Shareece Wright from USC will be available at the top of the 3rd for CBs.

And Jurrell Casey the DT from USC or Jerrelle Powe from Ole Miss will be at the end of the 3rd.

Good mock, except I don't think Brown will be there in the third and in the fourth I would take a chance on Greg Romeus. Otherwise my mock would look the same.

I know the Brown pick is a reach, but ya never know. We could actually end up with a second before the draft is all said and done. He's a baller

I do like both Casey & Powe (especially)...so I definitely would approve if either of those two happened. It just comes to show how deep this DT class actually is.

I actually originally had Shareece Wright instead of my Fua pick and Ellis in place of Brown with us still nabbing Fua at the end of the third. So basically: Gabbert, Ellis, Fua, Wright, Thomas was my other possibility (basically my non-reach mock)

Needs moar DT.

Are you being sarcastic or would you really take 3 DTs with our first 5 picks?
