Why do players think teams will just let them walk?

This marriage is OVER-

All Peppers is doing is burning his bridge on the way out.

I hope the door smacks the sh*t out of him on his way out.

:iamwithstupid:

The real Pep is coming forth and no one likes it. Too bad thats poo happens and be glad your rid of him because Just like all other former Panthers he will find that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.

I disagree. If you draft and develop a player you should get something in return for your investment if they leave. so did the players when they agreed to the conditions of the CBA which includes the franchise tag.

If he has a franchise tag put on him, then we can get something for him. If we don't, we lose out. The whole argument that we get something because we brought him in and taught him to play in the NFL is an argument that is totally missing the point.

We don't get poo for him unless we franchise him. If we can't franchise him, we don't get anything. In turn meaning, we don't deserve anything in return for him.

Sure we WANT something in return. But unless he is in a CONTRACT of some sort, we aren't OWED anything.

It's not hard to understand.

You are in contract, we have terms, we get something in return. If he is NOT under contract, then both, team and player, have no ties to each other. Just because we drafted him doesn't mean poo.

Peppers is just getting what Obama said America needs...CHANGE! Peppers needs Change. To many Panthers fans are taking it personal that he doesn't want to be in Charlotte anymore. He may have just outgrown the town. click on the thumbnail to see Peppers future. lol

agreed. regardless of his reasons, he wants out. People need to get the sand out of your vagina and deal with it.

It's his right to want to play somewhere else, He played his contract out. He has no obligation to this team and to its fans. He's played out all obligations with the panthers, if he wants to walk that is his right. Wasting a tag to try and keep him here is a waste and tagging him at the expense of losing gross is a waste. If the smartest thing to do is to let a player walk, then that is what must be done. To answer your question, they think that because it's a right of theirs. Just as it's your right to own a gun or drive a certain type of car or truck. If they ran their contract out why shouldn't they be allowed to walk????

Lets say you signed a contract for 4 music cd's with label A. After making those 4 cd's you decided you wanted to go to label B and sign another contract with them for a few more cd's, isn't that your right????? I mean you did obligate your contract by releasing four cd's, so shouldn't you be allowed to leave. How would you feel if you had decided to do that and Label A said you couldn't because they didn't want to lose you to their competitor. Is that Right????

Agree that Peppers played out his contract and does not owe the team anything. However, saying we should just let him walk is crazy. We would not tag him in an attempt to keep him here. We tag him to get compensation for our asset...plain and simple.

Peppers did not demand a trade during his contract...he did not holdout for a new contract...he played out his commitment. But, we should get everything that we can in return.

Tag him and trade him.

It would be stupid for the team NOT to try to get something (the higher the value the better) for Pep. That's not 'hating him', that's fundamental business concepts, ESPECIALLY as they are applied to pro sports! I like Pep. He's as much a face of this franchise as anyone else is, or has been, or will be! But it appears that he has pretty much burned his bridges. Much as I'd like to see him stay, and finish out his career here, it doesn't make sense to 'break the bank' to keep him, not when he has expressed such a strong desire to leave here. Whatever his reasons, they are his reasons, that's not going to change. As has been pointed out, he has honored his contract, and fulfilled those obligations. But that doesn't mean the team shouldn't try to make this work out for THEM as best they can. As I said, they would be stupid not to. I hope it works out for all concerned. If he doesn't stay, I hope we get some good compensation for him, and I hope he achieves All-Pro status at his new home. And if we beat his new team in the playoffs enroute to the Super Bowl, all the better!

A guy can dream, can't he?

You have to do what is most important to the team. Keeping Gross is more important than tagging Peppers to get some kind of trade for him.

I disagree. What makes you think having to tag Gross a second time is a good idea. He could not get him signed last year....can't get him signed this year....why would we think we could get him signed next year.

Let Pep walk for nothing and end up in the same situation next year with Gross....dumb strategy.
