Parcells QB Formula: Clausen > Newton

Recommended Posts

For the record I have no opinion on this what so ever. I just found this both funny and interesting. I Personally had to look up Clausen's stats to find out how he compared to this years draft class, and if you think about it, if he came out this year he would have a "yes" to just about everything (7/7).

http://blogs.thescore.com/nfl/2011/03/17/how-this-drafts-quarterbacks-stack-up-using-the-parcells-rules/

Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame:

Three-year starter? Yes (3)

Senior? No

Graduate? No

30 games? Yes (36, + Hawaii Bowl, Totals to 37)

23 wins? No (16)

2-to-1 ratio? Yes (60-to-27)

Above 60 percent? Yes (61.7%)

Total: 4/7

Cam Newton, Auburn:

Three-year starter? No (1)

Senior? No

Graduate? No

30 games? No (16)

23 wins? No (14)

2-to-1 ratio? Yes (30-to-7)

Above 60 percent? Yes (65.4%)

Total: 2/7

Oh, and just so we are clear I'm not endorsing Clausen. I'm not a big fan of any QB on the roster and any QB in this draft class.

The head athletic trainer on the '01 Pats has that same SB ring, and he had more to do with the win than Bledsoe did, LOL

If it wasn't for Bledsoe the Pats would have never been in the SB.

Brady helped the Patriots beat Oakland in the playoffs. But he sprained his ankle in the AFC championship game last week, and Bledsoe came on to bring New England back to New Orleans.

But, when the ankle healed, coach Bill Belichick went back to Brady.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
