I have a hard time with the Chargers for need reasons, but given that one of their reserves just got arrested a short time ago, I suppose it's possible.

Pats come up every time a vet's potentially being traded, but they already have a younger version of Smith (Wes Welker).

This smith trade could open up a scenario for maybe a Vincent Jackson when ever he become free.Because once there is a new CBA he will be avaliable.I can really see Ron Rivera and Chud trying to get him. Its just a scenario.

I think you had it right earlier int he thread. I just can't see Smith wanting to move on, then going to somewhere like Cinci.

If he was traded to the Pats, it's hard to imagine him fetching more than a 3rd rounder.

Going by the trades last year it would likely be a 4th, a 3rd if we get our super negotiating skills on.

Now considering we are due to get a compensatory pick in the 3rd, could we do a Smith plus a draft pick to pick up a 2nd?

Fans see Smitty, a man among boys, capable of leaping tall buildings with a single bound.

Outside of Charlotte, people see a guy on the wrong side of thirty who can be kind of a brat to deal with, whose numbers have been in decline of late and who's coming off two major injuries in two years.

Maybe someone would make a better offer than that, but I have a hard time seeing it without the homer glasses :(

The only reason I'd want to trade Smith is so that he would have the oppourtunity to play with a good qb and have a chance to get a super bowl ring before he retires. If we plan on trading him to a bad team I'd rather us keep him and let him retire a Panther.

Perspective. Whether people in Charlotte believe he is Superman or not, he's still one of the top five WRs in the league. Even if the Panthers got a 3rd round pick for him, they would be completely stupid to let Smith leave, when he still has years left on his contract and he can be a top five WR when he has a QB to throw the ball.
