Source: Panthers leaning to stick w/Clausen & pick Dareus

Love the Cam Nuthuggers logic....

Draft Clausen and play him immediately. He struggled mightily. Don't give him time to learn and progress.Consider him a bust and throw him away.

Draft Cam. Sit him on the bench because he needs to learn and develop.

I'm not a Cam nutthugger. I'm a Panthers fan who is tired of complete and total suckage at QB. We've been mediocre at that position for years and you are happy with that.

You and your crystal ball have decided that since Luck snubbed us that there is nobody that can play the position in the draft. You have more of a chance of being wrong than I do.

John Clayton who is at the owners meetings was just on Sportscenter this morning and says the Panthers are warming up to drafting Cam Newton and says we may be favoring him at this point. Also says AJ Green is in the mix.

So take everything (including John Clayton) with a grain of salt at this point.

On the other hand, if we're bluffing then we would "leak" information like this to Clayton.

I'm sorry but where are you getting your statistics? Players taken in the first 16 spots in the draft at the QB position have had a 25% success rate.... That's because you have players like Andrew Luck, Payton Manning, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers in the top who you know are going to be great. The ones with glaring red flags tend not to be the ones who help out that statistics. I say tend because you have your Flacco's, and Freeman's to consider.

Remain the same. Upgrade?! No. I'll pass. Just good enough is OK...

I have two words for your argument:

Brett Favre

QFT.

What a lot of these dolts refuse to realize is that just because some people want us to take Cam, it doesn't make us Cam fans. We want a guy with the potential to be a great QB - which we've never had.

New regime, new offense, new gameplans.

All 3 of those reasons should tell you why Clausen is still going to be here next year, and why they will try to groom him for the future.

Anybody saying that Clausen doesn't fit Chud's offense didn't pay attention to his career at Notre Dame and are immediately discredited. He was at his best stretching the field and getting the tight end involved. Wonder what kind of offense Chud wants to run?..... Hmm...

I'm not saying he WILL be the guy in the future but what I am saying is that he played his senior year in the NFL. He had the star receiver screaming in his face consistently, a coaching staff that didn't like him, an offensive gameplan that didn't help him, and the most inconsistent leaky O-line we have had in years. Not to mention we couldn't even run the damn ball like we wanted to. But in the end, Clausen kept his composure and ground out the season, biting his lip. NO ONE was happier than Clausen to get a new coaching regime. The kid showed class and flashes of talent here and there throughout the season. Giving up on him after the turd of a team we had last year collectively is naive and stupid.

did you watch clausen play at ND? every pass he threw was a screen, quick slant, or a prayer thrown up for his receivers to come down with. he did not "stretch the field" in the slightest. he hardly ever threw past 10 yards...

the 8th ranked defense in the league, is surely not as big as a problem as the 32nd ranked offense, QB play was horrible

Yeah, you are correct. What your wrong about is that Cam Newton would make a difference in that ranking if we drafted him number 1 overall. Unless you are advising a trade down with this statement, you are in a dreamworld where ignorance is bliss.

nah man with Cam we'd go from the 32nd ranked offense to the 28th ranked offense

but don't worry, we'll be the Clippers of the NFL. We'll have a top 10 play every week on sportscenter but in the end will be terrible

draft 101: don't reach on a bad player because you're desperate. a bad pick at #1 overall could set the franchise back years.

I've been checking this site out the past few weeks and I am very curious. When Carolina draft Cam Newton(because when it is said and done he will be the quarterback of the Panthers next season. Sorry Mr. Scot, Madhatter, etc.), are you Anti-Cam gentlemen going to root for him or hope he fails so you can be right? Once this draft process is over, will you put your beliefs aside and embrace him as part of the Panther family? Because quite frankly I think it will divide the fan base.

Much like Deshaun Foster and Deangelo did. He should start, no he should start. Much like Deangelo & J-Stew did for a minute. I don't have to mention any names but there is a certain individual who hates for Deangelo Williams to do well, because he loves Jonathan Stewart so much. You couldn't be a fan of a certain player without your fellow panther fan swooping in and demeaning that player to build his favorite player up. Well DeAngelo did well, but Stewart needs touches, or vice versa. the whole thing is just stupid, and I'll be damned it is going to rear it's ugly head again when Cam Newton comes to town.

The kid won't have a chance with some fans, and that is unfortunate. You have some lame talking about making anti-newton shirts??? Why??? It is great to have fun and debate who the Panthers should pick, but some of you guys attitude or negativity in regards to Cam Newton is absolutely pitiful!!! Some of you rather have the worst starting qb this franchise have ever seen back as a starter rather than Cam Newton be part of this team. Many of you have never seen Blaine Gabbert play in your life, but at the same time your positive he is the right choice because some scout or talking head told you he is more fluid in his drop. So is Alex Smith, so was Tim Couch...

Have you all thought and wondered why Gabbert held his pro day indoors, when it was reported that the wind was gusty in Columbia the day of his pro-day? Have you all thought to yourself why would Mel Kiper call Cam Newton a one year wonder, and Jimmy Clausen never had consecutive good seasons at Notre Dame. He was HORRIBLE his freshman and sophmore years. Speaking of Jimmy Clausen I want you all to watch this

, and tell me what does his high school footage have in common with his professional footage...

When it is all said and done we all are Panther fans, and we want this team to do well and be amongst the elite. I hope when the real #2 get in town people will stand behind him and not against him. Get your black home Cam Newton jersey Mr. Scot. I can't wait to see that avatar with you sporting it and smiling from ear to ear.

If the FO has really decided that Dareus is the pick, so be it. But it is not in the realm of believability that their plan going forward is to anoint Jimmy as our starter.

I don't buy it. If they go Dareus, we will be picking up a FA, or at minimum, have an open competition in camp between Clausen, Pike and Moore (assuming he signs his tender).

it seems everyone Draft guru and NFL insider seem to think the panthers are going quarterback. I honestly don't believe a bust here would set us back 4-5 years,The panthers aren't historically a horrible team and even if quarterback play isn't great next year our team should improve.

with new coaches new offense and another season under there belt the offense will already be improved. Last season was more the effect of horrible quarterback play not a horrible team. as long as we have some one decent in the driverseat i think we'll be fine.

history shows that is why Clausen is as good as gone....even if on the roster next year.
