Source: Panthers leaning to stick w/Clausen & pick Dareus

I've never bought into the idea that the organization is afraid of taking risks, especially not when you look at how many draft day trades Hurney makes.

The change is that Fox didn't believe in the franchise QB model. Rivera does, but that doesn't automatically mean we should jump at the first guy who might be that franchise guy.

If the team believes in any of these guys (Newton, Gabbert, Mallett) then they'll take them. I don't, but it's not my job to make the decision and I don't have access to all the info they do. Said it many time, but if it happens, I hope they're right.

Guess what... All those guys are douchebags...

I think people just fall in love with the idea of having a new shiny QB. I say draft Dereus, Green, or Peterson and roll with Clausen... I think he will do a lot better than expected by some.

Mr. Scot is right, and calling someone a fool over an opinion, WOW. Let me give you a hint, you will not like everyone's opinion, get over it. I don't want Cam, so I must be a grand wizard in the KKK. But I love Steve Smith, Beason,Dwill, Jstew, and so on. racial overtone's, undertone's... my ass. Take jramsey4's advice, please.

so if it's somehow race related not to want Cam at #1, what is it not to want Gabbert or Mallett with the #1 either?

Most of us here would embrace whoever we picked, but that doesn't mean I'll be enthusiastic right now about someone I don't want us to draft.

Quarterbackism, I guess :sosp:

Or you could go the KT route and suggest that we'd rather choose for a losing team. Cause, you know, doing that is so much fun

(perhaps we're all closet Bengal fans)

I've said "no quarterbacks" so many times people are starting to say it for me

That is called being football savvy...

on a quasi-related note, i'd be interested in seeing how the possibilty of a prolonged work stoppage vs a player's ability to keep himself in shape is affecting draft boards.

There has been speculation that the lockout will make rookie QBs less attractive because you wouldn't have the additional time (minicamps, etc) that you usually get to acclimate them to a pro system.

My take: That problem really only applies if you're looking for a guy to start as a rookie, and Rivera's not real big on that idea. Hence, if they thought a Qb was the best choice, the lockout wouldn't dissuade them.

Clausen was put in the WORST POSSIBLE SITUATION a rookie QB could be in. Lame duck HC, crappy OC, Otah hurt, rookie WR's, Dwill hurt, on and on. Jimmy should get a shot in camp, but if you only look at the trainwreck of a season we had in 2010, that's what you see. Fox should be the one that has some of the blame, quite a bit really. I'am not saying Jimmy is the guy, but our 2010 season is not a normal year for this team. If Jimmy is that bad next go around, with a lagit coach, OC, healthy Otah,Dwill ect. , then we'll know. He may not get out of camp as the #1 anyway.

I will just say this and leave alone. I dont like pulling the race card but there are people here that make racist jokes and later on say "oh Im just kidding...lighten up". Thats like telling a chick at a bar "let me lick on u" and saying "oh Im kidding" once she gets offended.
