Source: Panthers leaning to stick w/Clausen & pick Dareus

The Steelers have an anthem in Black and Yellow.

We need one.

So, after the Dareus pick and avoiding taking a risk and possible huge reward with QB, our anthem can be made in the same tune, called "3 and 13." It's what happens when you keep going defense when QB is the worst position on your roster.

why is Dareus not a risk?

DT, besides OL, is probably the least stat-oriented position on the field. If he sucks, it will be subtle and they can just say he's still doing his job because it's not as apparent through the stats.

Again, I've never seen a team constructed to where the DT single-handedly wins and loses games. That's why it's not a risk. He won't really make a difference either way. At least not the way an upgrade at QB will.

Best DTs in the league

Suh: 6-10

K.Williams: 6-10

Dockett: 5-11

I am probably missing a few, I am not including NT

Best Qbs in the league

Manning: 10-6

Brady: 14-2

Vick: 10-6

Rodgers: 10-6 (super bowl)

Find me a team with a franchise qb who had a losing record, because I can find you plenty of franchise dts with losing records.

Frankly, that's a pretty stupid question.

Nobody on here is going to hope Newton fails just because they weren't in favor of the pick. And Newton (or Gabbert or Mallett, for that matter) wouldn't be the first Panthers pick I disagreed with, and won't be the last. If you want a recent example, look at the first pick we made last April.

Actually, none of the guys you just mentioned started as rookies. They played, but didn't start, and they weren't quarterbacks.

Not likely. I don't buy player jerseys.

Again, what we have here is the silliness of thinking that drafting Newton at #1 is the only avenue we have for addressing the quarterback position. It isn't, especially not if you want improvement as soon as next season. If we do draft Newton or any of the other guys for that matter (a legitimate possibility) you don't want them starting their rookie year.

There was nothing stupid about that question. You're either naive or a fool. Which one is it? When you have a clown talking about making anti-Newton shirts before the draft, and the racial undertones not only on this board, but in comment sections in the articles regarding Cam Newton written by Gantt in the Observer you have to be a damn fool to actually believe that will all go away if he is drafted. McNabb was never embraced by many in Philadelphia, because they wanted Ricky Williams in the draft. Nothing STUPID about that question. You need to choose your words carefully. I am not the one!!!

You actually take comments written in the Observer seriously? Ouch :nonod:

Over the years, I've seen various threats to leave the Panthers over one thing or another:

- "If they don't cut Jake Delhomme, I'm done with this team."

- "If they don't fire (Jeff Davidson/John Fox/Marty Hurney/Ron Meeks/Whomever), I'll never give this team another cent."

- "If they run one more draw play, I'm finished with these guys."

- "If they don't draft - or sign - Player X, it's proof this team doesn't care about winning."

In pretty much every case, stupid statements made by silly people who never followed through on them (even though in most cases, we wished they had).

We've had all that and more, but now the newspaper finds some nimrod who plans to print anti-Newton T-Shirts. And that's supposed to be a big deal or somehow prove rampant racism in the fanbase.

Yeah...right

News flash: All the "racial undertones" are more likely in your head. There are some folks who just don't happen to think Newton is the best choice. And throwing charges of racism or personal bias against folks just because they happen to disagree with you about a draft pick is pretty weak (and, as one poster found out, can get you banned).

Bottom Line: Thinking that nobody can possibly doubt Cam Newton unless they're racist is really, really stupid :frown2:

Mr Scot is a pretty reasonable guy and while I do think he is in the wrong on this particular issue, I also know he will support whoever we draft. You might want to pick your battles more carefully.

Our fanbase is too much of a pussy to take risks

How does the fanbase have any say about taking risks? I agree our fanbase sucks, but thats only reinforced when i come on here to see people's thoughts, such as yours.

As I said earlier, any nimrod can come on here and say the organization should take a risk, when that person saying that has nothing to lose from it.

can people stfu with this "clausen sucks, we need a qb" "qb is more important than x position" crap. yeah, we get it, you need a franchise qb to win in this league. nobody is arguing that. people would rather just get an elite talent then a crappy soon to be bust qb. it's really not that damn complicated.

I kinda wish I was convinced Mr Newton is gonna be great, maybe, but for sure there are about 6 great defenders.
