Trading the #1 pick has been done so few times I just don't see it happening. Sure, it's going to happen again and this might be that year, but I just don't think so. The Observer did an article on it yesterday, on how many times the first pick has been traded.

The Observer sucks so bad.

This is the first year with a rookie salary cap, so throw out the past. Most guys say the cap will induce many trades. Alas, most of them are prone to take place between 8 and 15 picks.

3. Not seeing what others who needed a QB saw in Jimmy Clausen that caused them not to take him in the second round. I heard he offered the Rams our first rounder in 2011 to move up in the second round (a la Brown) and the Rams declined.

this did not happen, or Hurney lied to the press. He actually said the price to move up in the second was the 2011 first rounder so he refused to do it. Either way, I have no doubt that if Hurney really wanted to move up he would have been able to.

The rest of your problems with him are fine and all, just wanted to get that one off my chest :P I don't agree with your evaluation of it but oh well. I think Brown & Otah(Didn't we get Goodson with that trade too? Can't remember who else it was) were in no small part to get Fox "win now" people, because they were focused on the now instead of building for the future.

Also, AE has reportedly been JR's call. No idea if it's true. Dunno why Hurney did it anyway. But oh well.

Yea, I always cringe when people say "hurney tried to trade away our 2011 first to move up and take clausen" because that's nothing more than pure speculation that's been repeated so much it's being accepted as fact.

I think "nightmarish" is a bit of an exaggeration.

Future picks aren't traded as often as current picks even in normal years.

I'll grant that Hurney has done it more often than other teams might, but look who he learned from.
