So without a CBA you cannot trade players, but did you know there won't be a draft next year until an agreement is reached? You can't trade picks from a draft that doesn't exist. All trades would currently have to be done with this year's picks alone.

Trading down will be nightmarishly difficult without a CBA.

I will reiterate what I have said before in much less detail. If we trade down, I would insist on a second rounder and a first rounder in 2012 as a necessary part of the deal. The reason? If we trade down and need a QB again next year, we are likely picking in the top 10. The first rounder we would acquire should be enough to trade up and get a franchise QB then. I am guessing we would have enough to get the first, second, or third pick in the draft, which should guarantee us a top QB.

If we do not get the first rounder and finish 7-9 with bad QB play, we have the 15th pick and the opportunity to get a franchise QB is gone. In other words, we are dropping 5-10 spots and getting a second rounder. We should still get a Fairley, Peterson, Green, Quinn, Bowers, and possibly a Dareus or a Gabbert or Newton. The first rounder is insurance. In 2012, if we do not need a QB because we solved it, we have 2 first rounders. That could be the start of a dynasty.

Trading the #1 pick has been done so few times I just don't see it happening. Sure, it's going to happen again and this might be that year, but I just don't think so. The Observer did an article on it yesterday, on how many times the first pick has been traded.

Yes. And the people on this thread make very good points. This is the most messed up crap I have ever seen. The only way I would feel good about having the first pick and not taking a QB would be if I knew I postioned myself to take one the following year should my veteran not pan out. I think We have to take a QB now. Good work, Teeray.

Really limits our trade down options then if a new CBA isn't done by draft time. I'd say move down to 3-5 overall for a 2nd rounder or just stay put. Any further than that and I'd want a 2012 1st.

In fairness, this is the year Brown needs to show what he can do, so I will reserve judgement until the season is well underway. Armanti was resented by Fox and Davidson, so maybe the fresh start will do him some good. Let him focus on 1 thing (WR) and not throw WR, Wildcat, and PR at him all at once. there could be something there. Even if he becomes a pro bowler, it was a stupid trade, however.

Here is what bothers me about Hurney:

1. Trading in the first to get a RT

2. Trading a first to get E Brown when FSU DEs nearly always bust

3. Not seeing what others who needed a QB saw in Jimmy Clausen that caused them not to take him in the second round. I heard he offered the Rams our first rounder in 2011 to move up in the second round (a la Brown) and the Rams declined.

4. Trading up to get Armanti Edwards. He would have been there in the fourth round-probably sixth round. If he was taken, so what. NE fans are laughing at us.
