Of the current backup QBs in the league...

That's just not the case IMO, atleast not what I've seen of him. You may not like him, but that's a bold statement. Kolb is way ahead of Clausen in term's of playing and experience. Maybe I have'nt seen all the film I need to, but what I've seen he has the potential to be a starter. I agree about Moore MHS831, hope his injury is healing well.

Matt Moore's TD to INT ratio better is than Kolb's

Matt Moore has 16 TDS and 17 int

Kevin has 11 td's and 14 int

None of them. They are backups for a reason, cost too much to attain, and remind me of Jeff Lewis.

Way too much generalization. This is how many teams as I mentioned have found great QBs before. I'm asking who you like out of them given potential and youth to do well, not who you immediately want in a Panthers uniform.

On Kolb: Not for the Panthers period. I can see him do really well though in a WCO. Maybe joining Harbaugh in San Fran. He's shown he's got the tools for a Reid system which could work with Harbaugh.

Other names that don't get mentioned often but can probably be good for debate: Dennis Dixon, Bruce Gradkowski, Tyler Thigpen, & hell you got Leinert & Orlovsky out in Houston

Matt Flynn? seriously?!?! man i dont understand our fanbase sometimes.....whats up with all the love of scrub QBs

uh, backup QB's are usually scrubs, or they wouldn't be backup QB's.

Flynn has shown enough in limited playing time that he's one of the better backup QB's in the league.

Matt Flynn played behind Jamarcus Russell for three years, then got one year at LSU before he was drafted. He led the Tigers to the National Championship that year. He's a winner, runs well, and throws a good ball. But it's a moot point, because he's under contract next year.

Caleb Hanie looked good in relief of Cutler last year, he looks to be the most starter-ready backup out there. But he's also gotten a second round tender from the Bears, so he won't be cheap.

Dennis Dixon is another one with potential, but he's been tendered by the Steelers. However, that's a fifth round tender so it may be worth it.

A dark horse may be John Parker Wilson. He hasn't done anything in the NFL, but he played for Shula at Alabama and hasn't looked awful in the limited preseason action he's seen. I wouldn't be thrilled about him, but there just aren't a lot of options out there.

I really don't get it, why do we need to look through FA when we have Matt Moore? and he's probably cheaper.

Because that's what the OP was asking about.

As for me, I think we'll be ok with the same three we entered last season with. Clausen and Pike will both be tons better, and Matt Moore plays really well in odd years.

With a dedicated coaching staff, a competent Offensive Coordinator, and a QB coach who has a history of actually help his QBs perform better, it's quite possible that one of those three will emerge as a quality NFL starter.
