What is this UPSIDE that makes Cam better than Gabbert?

First of all, Alabama and Oregon are not in the NFL.

Secondly, who were the other 10 guys wearing the same color uniforms as Cam?

Finally, are you putting Gabbert behind the Auburn offense? Is this about the NFL or the NCAA?

If you want to use Cam's history to determine future success, use all of it.

I'm pretty sure we're all smart enough to realize that Oregon and Alabama are not NFL teams, but what the hell else are we supposed to go by?

Auburn's O-line was getting their asses kicked in that Alabama game, but Cam took the thing over and won it anyway. Do you really believe Gabbert could have done that? And don't tell me Gabbert had better WR's, because Cam's WR's were not exactly all world.

To London...I don't even care if either of them start right away. IMO, you invest in a QB based on where he's gonna be in 3-4 years, not where he is right now. I believe Rivera agrees with me too, since he has already stated that he believes teams are in too much of a hurry to start rookie QB's.

Do the people who want us to draft Cam Newton think of him as a first season starter and/or do you think we'll be winning immediately in a 2008 Falcons fashion if that's the case?

This isn't a rhetorical question, I legitimately want to see some opinions on it.

Cam is more a long term option. Im not hard pressed about him starting from day 1 or even care. Let him get in there when he's ready, if its right away so be it, if he needs time, so be it. I care more about us positioning ourselves for the future. This offseason isnt just about next season its about the next 4-5.

Ask yourself a couple of questions...could Gabbert have beaten Alabama or Oregon? Could Auburn have beaten Alabama and Oregon without Cam Newton?

This is irrelevant. What Newton did to win those games, he will not be able to do in the NFL. This is why I continue to ask, can anyone show me a highlight of Newton doing anything other than running around people?

I have never seen a highlight of Newton throwing a TD strike to a receiver. For someone who is a 'natural passer,' he sure stunk it up in the combine and pro day when passing the ball.

Damn dude, there are plenty of highlights of Cam throwing TD passes, moreso than Gabbert, I might add.

Also, what makes people think that Cam can't run in the NFL? He won't run as much, but to say he can't do it is ridiculous. If Rodgers can do it, then there is absolutly no reason why Cam can't do it, since he is obviously a superior athlete. Maybe it will be more 10-15yd runs, instead of 60yd runs, but as long as he moves the chains, who cares? A first down is a first down, regardless of how it happens, and it beats a 10yd sack every single time.

Another funny observation. All of those here wanting to know why others can't get past the fact that Cam has a questionable past are the same ones who constantly berate Mallett for his poor decisions.

#justsaying

I berate Mallett because he panics in the pocket. I, for one, have seen enough of that crap from Panthers QB's. I want a QB who can keep his head and make plays, and I have seen Cam do that time and time again. You can't teach that either.

I posted this in another thread as well, but what would you (and I'm talking primarily to MHS831 here) have said about this hypothetical situation...

Team Newton releases info that Cam scored a 32 on his Wonderlic. Everybody is fully impressed. Several days later, we learn that it was actually a 21, and furthermore, the 32 was scored at Whitfield's training facility.

The questions about his character would have exploded. Everyone would be calling him a liar, saying it was proof that he hasn't changed, etc.

Admit it. There is a double standard.
