Encouraging Comments about CBA: Vrabel & Owens

In other words, "not without our lawyers" :frown2:

(insert expletive here)

Who are the player's executive committee? A lawyer, a lawyer, and more lawyers, then a handful of players.

My point is that Vrabel is suggesting that the owners leave their lawyers out of the room and negotiate with the player's lawyers. Not really a fair suggestion if you ask me. I know the owners are smart buisinessmen, but they do not have the legal dexterity the player's negotiators do. So the liklihood of getting caught in loopholes would be much greater.

Now I realize that the owners would run everything past their lawyers before finalizing anything, but I also see the risk of the owners agreeing to something (or at least giving the appearance of agreeing to it) then after talking to the lawyers, pulling or changing the agreement. And all that would do is cause more friction and lead to some sort of "playing games" kind of comments from the players.

No, I think the owners need their team in there, but if they are causing friction, perhaps they should step back and let the identified owners lead the negotiations for their side, with the lawyers only there to break down the legaleze and keep the owners from stepping on a sandpit.
