i have to LAN ports at my desk. so the software is the way to go?

For that you can use Remote Desktop or put the name of the other computer in the command prompt (assuming you have Vista or Such)

Start --> Run--> (in the box) \\4uf3822fml\c$

Replace the other machines name with the red lettering..

i'm setup on remote desktop already, but the two machines are independent otherwise, and when i login to the desktop from the house it stutters through just about everything. especially ACAD and Inventor. both run XP 32 bit. i think i'll webex an IT guy to see if anything beyond that can be done.
