Deals get done at the last min in the NFL but no news is bad news right now. I can see the panthers slapping the tag on Gross if they cant get him signed. Nether the Panthers nor Gross want this but they are not gonna let both walk out the door. IDK whats the hold up but I will say it again its not looking good.

Everybody realizes that this is an article written by a guy who just did 31 other teams?

I doubt he had the time to really go in depth to the extent that we know this situation, he just saw that gross was cheaper and picked him

there is no way the team doesn't get a deal done, gross is deserves a large contract and we have the room. It's going to go down to the wire because it's a tough situation but the deal will get done.

Is it a possibility that if Gross signs and we end up franhising Pep that no other team wants to deal with the high cost of his tag... are we stuck with him for another year?

If we tag him and then trade him, odds are that the team he goes to will not be paying the franchise number......he will probably work out a long term deal. Thats kinda the point of this whole thing.

His tag contract would pretty much voided, because before he would accept a trade they would already have set up discussions on a contract extension. The price of the tag has nothing to do with trading him really, its what team wants peppers that peppers wants to play for and at the same time Carolina can't get totally screwed in the deal.

Gross has said publicly he wanted to stay in Carolina they may still let him hit the FA market and still resign him, but who knows. And I dont see how they could just let Peppers walk without getting anything in return, plus I'd hate to see him go to a team in the NFC South and I'm sure the Panthers org. would to.

Some people may disagree with me here but I say we franchise Pep, no matter what. Yes Gross is a cornerstone of the offensive line but really could we just let Peppers walk for free? Hell no. Potentially we would be shitting away a first round pick plus more that we could get for him. That's our future folks. I still think the deal with Gross gets done on time, but if not I still don't think we should franchise him. If Gross walks, we are pretty much solidified a 3rd round pick as compensation next year as well. The tradeoff is too high to risk letting Peppers walk.

Kirwan, like every other talking head, is purely speculating. They are basing their "opinion" on the fact that a deal has not been struck.

As tight lipped as the Panthers are, it is not surprising that all of the so-called experts have no more information than we do.
