Hurney, Rivera Looking like IDIOTS

There are aspects of a workout that matter. You want to see how a player has improved in certain areas, how a player looks taking drop backs, etc. But they don't overrule what you see on film.

If workouts didn't matter at all, period, then nobody would have them. They have some value, they're just one of many ways you evaluate a guy... and they are not super high up that list.

They can help you decide between two guys you would otherwise find pretty even on film though.

I didn't want Gabbert or Newton before their Pro Days. However, Newton's did impress me a bit because I thought he had improved quite a bit since the combine. If what people said about Gabbert's footwork is true that is very impressive. That does not make me want either of them, though. Still rather go D.

Which is a comparison. Anyway, the point stands. If workouts mean nothing, then these experts shouldn't be changing their minds about a player based on a workout...especially when it's indoors where there is no wind.

Dude the media set this up since last week. There most have been at least a dozen articles last week that said, "There is no buzz around Gabbert going number 1 but there will be after his pro day" Then those same guys have blown up his pro day.

I remember because ( being a Cam guy I admit) all they did was downplay the importance of a Pro Day leading up to Cam's but now some of the same people were pre-hyping Gabbert's pro day as "the day he would become the number one pick in the draft", etc. And I remember thinking, "Wait a minute this same guy told me a week ago that Pro Days didn't mean anything only tape did."

Then McShay comes on the air like literally 5 throws in to declare it a success was hilarious to me.

But to be fair Gabbert did have a good Pro Day.

I just don't see it, I watch highlights of Cam and every deep throw was to a wide open receiver, I see him stare down receivers 60% of the time, and a large of the percentage of the time he makes one or two reads and takes off on a non designed run play. I wouldn't mind if he had MV speed or The Golden Calf of Bristol power, but he doesn't have either. If I truly wanted a run first qb in this draft I would take Locker a million times over.

I also have an issue with Cams off the field problems, what kind of qb or leader steals a team mates laptop? What kind of self respecting person auctions himself off to teams and then lies about it to the national media.

Cam is so hit or miss it is not even funny, and if I had my money on it I would go ahead and say three or four qbs will have a better nfl career when all is said and done.

Well what i have to say you might not like it but its all about what the panthers want to do. Its about what coach Rivera want its about coach Chud wants and its about what coach Shula wants. This aint no perfect world so everybody isnt going to be great, everybody isnt going to stay in the pocket all day and throw like Manning or Brady because there aint nobody like them.

Cam been able to run a little bit its good for his game it give him a dimension to help him out into he develop into his own passing game flow. And its not like his passing game is bad. He threw 30 touchdowns in the SEC. when Blaine the game threw how many 15 or 16 with 9 picks. Its something about that and it scares the poo out of me. But Im going to be happen with who ever Carolina pick weather its newton ot Gabbert.

But going back to the laptop you dont know what happen in that situation neither do anybody else. The only people who know is Cam and who ever else that was around. Also with the other situations you better believe it the panthers already know about everything by now.

I didn't really sense that. At all. The way ESPN was treating it, and the way many others in the media including Charlotte were treating it, Cam Newton was so impressive he should be #1.

Didn't we have a lovely article on NFL.com with that same title?

Clearly, some of them thought workouts mattered. Brandt thought workouts mattered; McShay did, too. They may not have mattered enough to McShay for him to change his QB rankings entirely but still. Mayock just wasn't that impressed with Newton's workout but he seemed impressed interviewing him after.

So the media downplayed the importance of a pro day with CAM? Are you sure? They talked about redeeming his combine performance. They mentioned the Panthers crew and talked about top 5 teams interested in him. They televised the entire Auburn pro day. How again is that downplaying it?

One thing is for sure...Mayock was obviously more excited about Gabbert's pro day than he was about Cam's. He looked like a little kid on Christmas morning.

IDK, I just like Cam's production much better than Gabbert's. Results matter more to me than whether the guy looks more mechanically sound against air or not. The fact is, whoever the Panthers QB is, there will be pressure and he will have to make plays from awkward positions. That's a big part of the job, and Cam thrives in those pressure situations.

What can you say? Cam Newton just doesn't have it. The hair, that is. Sunshine...

Of course they wouldn't think that or why would they consider picking him. Unless you think they are in self destruct mode or want to fail.

Sounds like that is what you think. Try not to get upset and do something rash if we pick him. Remember suicide is never the answer.

LOL butthurt much, Sounds like your closer to the edge than me. ;)

How are they looking like Idiots?

They have narrowed the field down to 8. They have met with, have attended or scheduled workouts, and even broken bread with almost all of the 8.

WHY does the HC have to attend EVERY QB workout? That's why he hired a QB coach, right? And if you are looking to move down and know Buffalo is sitting at #3 interested in Newton, you as the HC goes to see Newton to give the illussion that Carolina is primarily looking at Newton.

And Carolina is going to try to keep their hand hidden right up to the moment they turn in their card.

The off-season and time just before the draft is over analyzed and a time of 'frenzy' for fans. Coaches are playing 'chess' right now, and fans are hungry for more action, more news. I like the 8 names we have limited out focus to, and I am not going to start insulting our new coach and (old) GM simply because they are not doing what I think they should do. (There is a reason I am not the coach or GM of a Pro Football team.)
