Blaine Gabberts Mega thread

I am going to help your case MAV. Here is a mock from SI back in April of last year that has Gabbert top 10. 9th to Buffalo (may have gotten then team right). This is from last year so he has been on the radar.

I beg your pardon kind sir you were correct

Sporting news didn't have him in their first round.

Those are the only really credible ones I could find from last year.

But yeah he was definitely on the radar!!

Hmmm...Gabbert does have Brady-like hair. I may have to change my opinion...

If he's drafted here, he'll probably be nicknamed "Sunshine" about five seconds after he meets his first new teammate.

(actually, that'll probably happen wherever he's drafted)

In fauirness, I'm far from the first person to call him "Sunshine".

I'd watch the pro day video just to see Proehl catching passes again.

You weren't.

If you don't care about anything but the nickname, go to the end of the video when Mayock brings in his center and brings that very thing up.

Wow..these dudes have a weird man-crush on Gabbert.

Not to start the race-card without merit but I am actually thinking if Cam Newton was a white guy this all would be moot and Newton would be the no brainer no.1 QB in this draft.

Cam just unfairly gets bunched in with the Vince Youngs, Russell, Akili Smith and not judged on his merits of not only learning a new offense last season(first season)...but excelling against the best players in college, winning the Heisman, and going undefeated despite weekly pressure from the media and speculation about his eligibility.

His accuracy struggles in the Bowl game are being weighed heavily against him as his season was anything but that all season long. There is an ungodly long layoff from the SEC Championship game to the national Championship game and he was rusty in that game.

Sure not a perfect guy by no means and yes id jump on the Luck train in a heartbeat over him..I just think between Gabbert and Newton its not that close. Any strength that Gabbert possess Newton has.

Newton also has the mental edge where I can see him commanding a huddle of vets even if he is thrust in there next season...where Gabbert is only a few passes and pony tail adjustment from getting a Smitty punch!

The Golden Calf of Bristol wasn't the #1 QB in the last draft and he wouldn't have been in this draft, either. Obviously they are very different players but many of the complaints about them were the same, save for the fact that The Golden Calf of Bristol actually did what he did consistently over numerous years. Sure, Cam has things up on The Golden Calf of Bristol but the reverse is true as well. Yet The Golden Calf of Bristol took a ton of flak etc. To me, this is evidence that it is as much a system bias against quarterbacks that run often in college as it is anything else. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

It's the system Newton came from, the skills and tools he showed on tape, and what he was asked to do that has people concerned. Now, many of the same analysts saying Gabbert is the #1 QB are also saying Newton will be a great QB too. These two are not exclusive... and since I really hope the Panthers aren't picking either of them I'm not that worried.

The only reason The Golden Calf of Bristol was not #1 was because of his throwing motion. If he threw the ball like Cam does he would've gone number one overall no doubt.

No, he really wouldn't have. :P

It was a major detraction but there were still other question marks about him. He may have not been a reach in the middle of the first round then but he had more problems than just his throwing motion.

Plus, mechanics are actually an area of weakness for Cam anyway(though obviously he is working on improving them), even if not throwing motion.

He may not have gone ahead of Bradford. But ifr he had a better throwing motion I have no doubt he would have been a top 10 pick. I actually had him rated above Clausen and I think everyone would have agreed with me if his throwing motion was better.
