What about Frank Omiyale

God forbid that J. Gross tests the F.A. Market and leaves. I don't think we will just let Peppers leave. He will get the Tag Regardless of what J. Gross. Hopefully we don't find out.

I know that Frank Omiyale only started one game but he did play in a total of 10 games for us. The one game he started he did OK. Granted he is not the Caliber that Gross is but he could step in. So if we lose J. Gross. Frank stays.

I also think that push comes to shove Wharton moves back to LT and we fill the interior with someone else. I am sure we will.

Frank did well when he was on the field. I bet the FO has plans to offer him a new contract however I bet they wait until after midnight on the first day of free agency in order to have more cap space at that point in time.

Or cut those already targeted and sign him as soon as they do. I don't see us letting both walk though.

Wharton will stay at guard and Omiyale or Bridges will play RT with Otah moving to left...at least that's how they will start camp. They traded a first rounder for Otah because they think he's a franchise LT. If it goes south, the tackles will swap...but I don't see that happening.

Not saying you are wrong at all because it could happen, but I am not sure that is likely because I recall their saying during the year that Omiyale needed to be playing only @ LT. I admit that puzzled me because theoretically a LT should be able to swap to RT with some prep, though I realize that some are far better on one side than they are on the other. I agree about Wharton needing to stay @ guard though. I don't think he's as bad as some seem to think as a LT, but he is a better guard.

You could be right about Omiyale...he's a tad light for a RT and possibly not as strong as he needs to be, though that can be changed if he has the work ethic ;)

I don't remember much drop off when he started at LT that one game. And throughout the times he has come in, the line still played well with each other. I would hope we keep him as a back up LT... (Behind Gross, meaning we get him signed, and let Otah stay on the right)

From what I have read it would appear that is has all the skills necessary for a left tackle. He is athletic, has good feet, and good balance. He has decent strength and really just lacks playing time. When he was with Atlantic folks said he had a nasty streak in practice. Should fit right in with the other guys. At 6 4 and 310, he seems the right weight for the position.

i dont think thats true at all...otah has always said to be a RT not a LT

Wharton would move to LT, and Otah stays at RT where he's suited. There's no doubts about this. You don't let Gross walk for Frank Omiyale. Omiyale's a good backup, but you don't make that move.

You could, of course, re-sign Hangartner for the LG spot, but I'd like someone who generates more push. There's a pretty big difference between Kalil and Hangartner in push (and no, you don't move Kalil over).
