All Signs Point to Newton as Panthers' #1

You mean like Newton? Newton has never been the #1 guy from the start. Usually a QB dominates the #1 pick, but this year there is no clear cut QB for #1...and that's saying something. Many mocks have Newton in the 6-10 range, so why people think we'd jump at #1 for him especially after a sub-par combine and typical Pro Day is beyond me.

The only reason he isn't a lock is because of the off the field issues. There's no other reason a QB could accomplish as much as Cam and not be the concensus #1 pick other than the fact people believe black QB's arent smart enough or whatever they come up with.

I don't think so.

I will direct you here, though (link)

 What the fug is that. You have said that since I have been there. Plus you wrote it like two minutes ago.

I that is what you are referring to then yes I did already know.

And that point isn't without merit. Just history shows that stop gaps and FA rarely works. Ask the Bills how it has worked for them.

Still find it amusing that the Newton Nut-huggers want to give Newton a luxury (sitting for a year or two) that they were not willing to give Clausen.

lol what?

Do you even know what in the hell you are talking about? It was almost the consensus judgment that when we drafted JC he shouldn't have started immediately.

That's what you call grasping bro.

Dude Scot, you are in denial the likes that I have never seen. Every time there is something about Cam on here that is positive or is evidence that he will possibly be our pick you immediately shoot it down, or down play it, or call it a smoke screen, or explain it away as due diligence, and now you have resorted to saying Tom Sorensen is just making stuff up.

I don't think anyone on here thinks Newton is a lock (well most of us don't), but for some reason you are constantly trying to convince yourself that all this interest means nothing, is fabricated by journalists, or is just a bluff.

Just deal with it. You may have your wish and we trade down or go in a different direction like PP or Gabbert.

But your constant theories to try and convince yourself that that Panthers aren't at least seriously considering this guy as the pick is fooling no one but yourself.

There is no "evidence" that Cam will be the pick.

All of the speculation stems from us having dinner with him....scheduling a private workout....going to his pro-day....etc.

Guess what? We are doing the same thing with about 5-6 other players.

The nut huggers want to see everything as some evidence that he is the pick. The rest of us see it for what it is.....due diligence on a possible pick.

Step away from the bong pipe.

My point is that all of the Cam nut huggers want to throw Clausen in the trash because of a bad rookie season on a bad football team.

He definitely should have sat....but he was forced to play due to injuries and lack of depth at the position.

If Clausen was allowed to sit for his rookie season (like everyone is suggesting for Cam), we would not even be having a conversation about a QB in the draft.

We are both saying the same thing! That is what I have said from the get go. Most of us have said that he is being considered and all these dinners, etc. are evidence that he is being strongly considered.

That is all I have said anyway. Only a few people have said this was definitely going down.

I was happy we drafted Clausen. Then I saw a scared kid the had no leadership, fumbled snaps, and couldnt throw over the d-line. So I'm glad we got to see what he was early instead of sitting him to come out and be the same. While others are working on thier game Jimmy is taking trips to the bahamas as if he won a ring already. I have no problem with us bringing in a vet to compete with Jimmy. Hopefully Jimmy gets better and becomes something, but I want us to draft Newton and let our coaches do their job and thats to make him the best he can be.

I know, I almost jumped ship when I heard "Jerry Colquitt, Carolina Panthers" too.

Can't say Colquitt registered much with me (but I suspect you're joking here).

I wasn't that big a fan of Shawn King or Tyrone Poole though, and I definitely would have preferred McNair to Collins.

Doubt many will remember, but there was a TV feature that showed the Jags scouting process where Kevin Gilbride talked about Collins. Pretty much from that point on I had some big doubts. Wish they would have been wrong :(

Following years, when they made picks like Biakabutuka over Eddie George, Chuck Wiley and Mitch Marrow (crowd says "who") over Leonard Little, DeShaun Foster over Clinton Portis and others...now those were times when it was really tough to have faith.

And yeah, last year, I wanted a receiver over Clausen. I settled in better after we picked LaFell, but last year I wanted a vet backup way more than I wanted a rookie.

(now we know how that turned out) :(
