I like Patrick Peterson..

Awesomeness!!

Seems like a cool dude. Good player, and cover half of the field..........just not worth a number 1 pick, which is consistent with every defensive player in this draft. Should I remind you that we have JIMMY CLAUSEN STARTING for this team as of right now??? Trade down, and Draft Cam. Only real option we have.

But this doesn't apply to Pat Peterson?

No because Peterson is a blue chip player, he's a "sure thing" you might say. He is at a position that doesn't have as high of a bust rating as QB, and even if by some random act of nature he tends to bust, then the state of the Panthers won't be as bad as it would if we took a QB. Because DB's can be replaced, and are easier to find than QB's. But a franchise QB is very hard to find, and in this draft I see zero potential franchise QB's. Sorry.

This makes zero sense. I don't care about the "bust rate". CB isn't our biggest need, its QB. We found Cap in the 7th round. There is no need to pick PP first, and there is no such thing as a "sure thing". If PP busts, we will stupid for taking a corner with the first pick. I would rather take the gamble with Cam. IF we suck, we'll be picking high in the draft again anyway. A CB doesn't have that effect on Ws and Ls.

Oh boy... you made yourself sound stupid on this one. Let me clear this up for you:

Do you honestly believe that Captain Munnerlyn, a career Nickel CB (with small size) can play the #2 CB position better than Peterson? I love Captain a lot, great player, will never be a shutdown CB like Peterson.

I agree with you on there never being a "sure thing". But if there is a margin that's close to it, then Peterson's name would be in it (and at the top of the list). Peterson is without a doubt the biggest impact player in this draft. To think a QB in this draft has more potential than him is idiotic to say the least.

So your willing to take the 3rd ranked QB in a draft class that's extremely weak at the QB position? If Newton came out in next years draft he would be lucky to go in the 1st round at all. I'm all for fixing the QB position, and I don't honestly believe in Clausen, but realistically Newton would only be a marginal improvement. He has the potential to be good, but I (as well as others) don't believe him to be a franchise QB. He's shown me nothing.

As for the CB not having an effect on Wins and Losses, when we have extremely talented QB's in our division, not being able to stop them from carving up 2-300+ yard games does effect Wins and Losses. Though I would prefer to grab a DT that could help collapse the pocket and stuff the run instead of a CB, I would take Peterson in a heartbeat if DT was out of the equation. I hate to break it to you, but every position on both offense and defense effects wins and losses (hell, even special teams).

The notion that the only QB options we have are either Newton or Clausen is just silly.

It definitely is, we have FA's and Matt Moore. Drafting a QB with the #1 pick and having the bust rate very high plus, paying ALL that money.

Peterson works extremely hard for someone with his talent. He strives to be the best he can be. Not an icon, entertainer. The dude has been doing this his entire life. He doesn't halfass when he can, and go all out when he needs to. This guy is the Steve Smith type in terms of self-motivation without the Napoleon complex. While I say this to describe Peterson, I realize it's true for Newton as well, however, there's just not enough clear cut facts about Newton to this regard. We know he's a competitor who tries to win. But so were a LOT of first round QBs. DB is a position where playmakers can emerge as easily as they can fall, But it's SO MUCH easier to repair.
