Why we CANNOT pick Patrick Peterson.

So having a top flight db isn't a need? I gotta asume you ignored gamble's down year, think marshall is really better than he is, and will be returning a panther, and finially, as much as I love the captain, his size gets taken advantage of by dominate, big receivers.

You must bee ignoring the fact that our return game can use a big upgrade.

Yeahh, your right, petersons ability doesn't fit any of our needs. How silly of me.

Do you not see my posts around this place indicating Gamble could be gone?

Haven't really heard much on the Marshall front... but if he comes back he is adequate for a team with such glaring needs elsewhere...

Captain can hold his own at the nickel...

We also have 2 guys at CB going into their second year, and another young guy who has done alright in spot duty thus far...

Pardon me if I don't think we should ignore the worst offense in the league in favor of improving a pass defense that has ranked average to good the past 5 or 6 years...

Why would you have the #1 pick, supposedly a god-send at CB, back there in the return game?

If Gamble and/or Marshall is gone, then sure... get Peterson... but at this point in time there are at least 3 positions with way more of a glaring need...

So if Peterson could not only shut down half the field on defense, but could also be worth 50 yards of field position per game, would that be enough to consider him?

I don't know that he can "shut down half the field on defense" nor do anything in the return game...

If he can, that would be great... But it still leaves us with the crappy QB, WR, and DT situation we were in last year...

Considering that his biggest weakness is the going to be the basis for our entire defensive scheme, assuming that he can shut down half the field as a rookie seems like a bit of a stretch.

It'd be like asking a QB who was best suited to run a WCO to run a vertical passing game as a rookie... oh yeah we tried that didn't we.

even if the new CBA implies a rookie payscale, PP wont be the pick imo (though a few weeks ago, i was committed to this pick as well).

even if you go for d-line with your 3rd-rounder (i dont think so), you have to draft aj green. he can be a difference-maker from day one and you need a replacement for smitty sooner rather than later. gettis can be a nice downfield-threat due to his speed, lafell can be a slot receiver due to his power (my personal opinion) and aj green is a natural no.1 wr.

a CB can be taken out of the game very easily...too easy for a 1st ovr imo. champ bailey, asomugha or joe haden didnt effect respective passing defenses so much last year.

Why are you going to draft Peterson when we have much bigger needs for impact makers in at least 3 other positions?

Do you try to drive nails with a toothbrush? Do you try to tighten bolts with a plunger?

You don't drive nails with a broken hammer either. You can't just assume that these prospects at DT/QB are worth their hype. PP would be plan B, but plan B's are still worth looking into.

I posted a corny joke..... and an actual discussion and debate broke out! I've been blasted for blasting PP (i actually think he should be the #1, see link below) and I even got a threatened neg rep!

I LOVE THE HUDDLE!!!

I called for him to be the #1 back on Feb 3rd WAY ahead of the PP train everyone seems to be now riding.

FYI: nails are best driven with a nail gun.
