Sources: NFLPA orders draft boycott

What good will the boycott do? Will it make the two side's get a deal done quicker...no. Just make's the NFLPA look childish and selfish. Anything they do at this point should help get the deal done. This will do nothing to help matter's, only hurt the process. Maybe De Smith has seen himself on TV a little too much, your just another lawyer De, nothing more. Don't get me wrong I'am not on the side of the owner's, but from the report's I've seen and read, they at least made some effort to bridge the gap.

Bet you many will still be there. I would really be surprised if these players did this - especially since the part that most impacts them (rookie wage scale) that the owners want to put in place right now was suggested by the NFLPA...

It's not as if the owners alone are trying to curb the rookies wages, so why should they be so against them?

Are they even in the NFLPA yet? How the heck do players even join it when it decertified?

Again. Why should the NFL and their networks profit from the players appearance?

The players are free to contract their appearances with a different network. Once the NFL network announces the pick, the players network can present the player with a hat and celebrate with the family.

Just curious, which one will you watch? LOL I'll be watching the players.

You guys blindly support the NFL monopoly....the NFL has no competition from other leagues and they make money off of the (players)....now the players have the opportunity to collect....next the players will have an opportunity to sell "their" names to athletic wear companies and be paid for "their" names on NFL team club jerseys, then maybe players can get paid for "their" likenesses represented in Madden games.

Players have been a captured commodity for the last 20 years, now they will be able to market and sell themselves, just like the NFL does....

Again. I think it's hilarious.

The NFLPA wouldn't have represented them as a union before either. It's only once their name is selected are they apart of the union.

The NFLPA better watch themselves because a stunt like this could not only piss off many of the incoming players but also the current ones as well. On what grounds is the NFLPA doing this? For leverage of what, they're not suppose to be a union anymore???

Let the NFLPA screw up and cost the players the court case and in a couple of months the players will be apart of the PFPA (Pro Football Players Association).

Answer this. Why should these young kids have the best day of their lives taken away from them? So the players can make a point??

And you act like the players get paid with peanuts. They get paid for their likeness.

It is called multi-million dollar contracts to play a game. They get paid to play a game. The reason they are able to be paid as well as they are is only because of those things you mentioned.

MLS would get paid millions if their images sold as well too.

Instead since their sport isn't as popular those guys are paid so little that they are also substitute teachers at local schools. They almost all have second jobs bc MLS can't pay them because they don't make the money the NFL does.

So they get paid for that sh*t that is bull poo

Again, you didn't read. The players association wants to contract with another TV network and present the 17 players with their hat and record the family reaction. The 17 players could then get the proceeds from their appearance and they wouldn't miss anything.

No NFL players do not get paid for their names or likenesses. Reebok contracts directly with the NFL, the players don't get squat. EA Sports and 2K doesn't give them a penny either, due to their contract with the NFL.

Comparing MLS makes no sense. The MLS doesn't bring in the revenues that the NFL does. You can't compare any professional sports league to another, because it's like comparing apples and oranges.....they are all totally different.

Kevin Mawae on NFL's case against NFLPA with NLRB: "We're not a union any more, so it doesn't matter."

Even as an ex-player, the NFLPA telling rookies to boycott the draft is off-base. Negative reaction waiting to happen from the true fans.

-Matt Bowen

The more this goes on, the more I'm leaning towards the owners.

Will you be wearing a tinfoil Panther helmet?

FYI....if the Panthers are not careful...they will be retracted....if a CBA is not reached, then it will only be a matter of years before the smaller market teams are squeezed out and we watch New York play Dallas every year.

Without a CBA smaller market teams will not exist in the future. It will not be economically feasible.

If a CBA is not reached, there won't be football to watch in New York or Dallas either.

Says who? If the lockout is not blocked by a judge and the 2010 CBA is not reinstated, then the owners WILL have the option to replace players (SCABS). This is how a lockout works and it's the owners only recourse when they face economic hardship based on a lockout. They have to keep the machine moving.

So, if the 2010 CBA isn't reinstated by a judge thus bringing the decertified players back to the field, while lawsuits continue, then the owners will use replacement players (SCABS). If there are no salary caps for the SCABS, then the owners who have the most money to spend will buy up all the best SCABS and eventually the owners who can't compete financially will be forced out of the NFL.

The best part of the draft is being in New York and walking across that stage for these kids. Handing them a hat on Skype in their living room is hardly the same thing.

The players get paid for their likeness by the very fact they are playing in the NFL. The NFL's revenue comes from these players likeness.

That is why the NFL can afford to pay them huge salaries. They get paid for their likeness by drawing a salary that the rest of us can only dream of. If they want to sell their own likeness they would have to take a huge paycut.

Also it wwould fug up things like Madden, etc because certain players wouldn't be included in the game.

Like MJ wasn't in NBA video games and Bonds wasn't in MLB games.

Not having certain players in the video games would lead to another dip in revenues. So they would have to cut player salaries some more.

So they do get paid for their likeness. Bull poo.

Most of the ratings come from the first round selection show. Not everyone follows football like we do. We're all real fans and probably watch the entire draft.. the casual football fan will tune in to the primetime special, see who their team picks first, and change the channel.

The biggest thing that makes draft day so appealing is all of the interviews, the reactions of players getting drafted, etc.

I'm a real fan and I dont watch past the first round. Some people just have poo to do

    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.

    • Heels let another team go up 20 on them but this time they complete the comeback. HD never seems to have his team ready but he makes great halftime adjustments. Powell played the majority of the second half and his defense was the difference along with his big three pointer to give the Heels the lead for good. Trimble and Davis were also spectacular. Carolina can’t let Auburn get out to a 20 point lead though, they won’t be able to come back from that.
