As you may know the NFLPA plans on hosting its own draft day event. They are most likely harassing players and their agents to try and coerce/intimidate them into not appearing at the NFL draft.

If I were the owners, I would be meeting right now to reach an agreement among ourselves that any rookie player who refuses to appear at the NFL draft event will not be drafted in the first round.

In order to achieve this without being accused of collusion, the owners would have to meet privately with 2nd and 3rd round players for workouts. HAving done that work, they would be able to say that they researched the players individually and felt that mock drafts and analysts overestimated the value of non-appearing first round draft picks. The NFL should absolutely set a precedent that if a college draftee is going to join the fight against the league before joining the league itself, that they will pay for that in MILLIONS OF DRAFT DAY DOLLARS straight from their own pocket. The NFL needs to send a message, not only to this draft class, but future draft classes.

They haven't even been hired yet, so they aren't entitled to anything but the opportunity to win the respect and the contract with a team. The owners absolutely need to agree to this before draft day.
