NFLPA Said --VS--NFL/Owners Said

I'm pretty amazed at the level of animosity towards the players on this one. If you read about the details of the negotiation process its pretty clear that the owners never really approached them as equals at the table and were pretty disrespectful throughout the process (see Jerry Richardson). The players main standing point (open books from owners) was very reasonable as its impossible to negotiate in good faith when only one side sees the full picture. At the end of the day this was about the owners wanting to show the players that they're the kings and feeling as if they have the upper hand in the league.

How can some of you idiots complain about players making a few million and being lucky to get that? They're earning every cent of that money and a heck of a lot more which is ending up in owners pockets. So the rich owner has somehow committed more to the team/league in your mind? Those players are giving everything they have, endless hours of training/practice/travel/games, their physical and mental well being, long term health, ect. If the players can't be treated as equals in the league after giving all of that, I say I hope the owners get what they deserve in court.

They've invest 20 years of their lives to becoming an NFL player, not to mention the physical damage their bodies endure playing in the league for an average of 3.5 years.....all the owners did was lay down some cash and buy a team....who really made the investment?

If you know "A" NFL player who has retired, ask them what physical problems they have from playing in the NFL. I know several and not one of them doesn't suffer from some lingering injury and by suffer I mean it limits their physical abilities.

Does that mean that miners, construction workers, chemical engineers, virologists, technical consultants, waitresses, physical therapists, parking deck attendants, university professors, competitive eaters, store clerks, elevator technicians, etc are invested in their respective companies to demand profit sharing?

If your answer is "yes", then welcome to Socialism. Another couple of steps and you will dive full-on into Communism when you abolish private property rights altogether.

It was their choice to play football. They know the risks to their body, and if they don't want to take it, then they don't have to play.

Until players are as financially invested in their respective teams as owners, they are not equals, nor should they be treated that way. Your avatar is apt.

fug the players. They had absolutely no intention of trying to negotiate....and we knew this when Smith was named head.

The owners put forth a very good deal....conceding on the 18 game season...set up payments for past players....splitting the difference on the amount to come off the top.

The players always intended on decertifying and suing.

I hope this drags out a long time....let's see these greedy ass players make a living bagging groceries (the only non-football skillset most of them have).

They have been planning for this for years (as several players said). They knew the deal the owners signed before wasy absolutely agregious and would be opted out of.

This has been the plan all along...fug them....I hope they and their families damn near starve to death. MAybe then they will realize just how unbelievably good they really had it.

No it's not. No privately owned business should/is required to turn their complete financial record over to anyone. The owners provided the info they felt was necessary for the union to see, which is more than they probably should have been required to do.

all done by Free Choice they choose this career path, nobody held a gun to their head and said, 'thou shalt be a football player, now bend over"

They are trying to use coercion against ownership, infringing on their private property rights, into a deal they do not think is economically feasible.

Your missing the point, its not about the fact that an NFL career is tough for a player. Its a demonstration that players are putting at least as much into the league personally as the owners. Acting as if they should be lucky to get a nickel from a business that's generating billions in revenue is beyond unfair and outrageous.

Thank you....finally someone actually gets this.

Players want the privelages and financial rewards of ownership....with only the responsibility and risk of employees.

Private companies do not and will not open their books to employees....EVER!!!!!!!!! And they should not be required to.

fug the players......hope they all starve to death.

They are EMPLOYEES....they don't have a DIME of their own money invested in these teams. They show up for work and earn a PAYCHECK.

If they want the same financial rewards and rights as owners, let them buy a team. Until then, fug THEM.

I would go one step further and have them ask Jerry Richardson... the ONLY MAN IN THE ROOM THAT HAS BEEN ON BOTH SIDES... and see where he falls on this

If there was zero players union, the players would still be millionaires. Some may even make more money

The only real agreements that are needed to create a good product is a salary cap and profit sharing, to keep the big market teams from completely dominating, buying super bowls, etc. The money is there now to secure retirement plans for the players that we now know are likely to end up in poor health later in life. a Rookie cap within this, which would benefit veterans is also likely needed.

People like to talk about the "Revenues" and the NFL being top Revenue league, etc....but Revenues are not Profits and what matters is Net Profit. They have huge expenses and risk to manage.

NFLPA said that wanted proof. Show them records of their financial records. The NFL said OK, we will compromise, we are willing to show you five years of that information. NFLPA says, no we don't want 5 years, we want 10 years. While the NFL considers their offer, the owners are watching on TV that the Union Decertfies.

Damn the NFLPA. Damn them all to hell.

the Players don't need a players union, which they pay dues to, to make million dollar salaries.

the NFL teams generate plenty of $$$, the good players are in limited supply with 32 teams with millions there to bid against each other for their services, so their teams are better, win more and make more money as a result.

The NFL was willing to give them 5 years of financial information. They did open the books and willing to do it for all 32 teams. It wasn't good enough. You lose.

I'm with the owners lock those dumb asses out. Let's see what they can do with their College Degree. Oh, I forgot, the majority of them don't have a College Degree. Well let's see if they can survive during the lock-out with the money they saved (When they possibly knew one was coming). Oh crap, most of them didn't save their money either. I don't feel sorry for them not one bit.
