42" LCD TV Wall Bracket - Suggestions?

I would suggest trying to get it thrown in as a freebie when you buy your tv. Companies like HHGregg and Best Buy have been known to do that. You can also let Best Buy install the bracket for like $100 (bracket included for free with purchase of tv, iirc) which saves a lot of headache.

All brackets are really the same thing with perhaps a few different aesthetics changes here and there. However, don't worry what the thing looks like because you're never going to see it anyway.

I would also find out if the bracket has any swivel function in it. Some of them are set not to move and, depending on how high you are placing it, it could make it uncomfortable to watch when sitting down. You want it to tilt downwards a wee bit.

Let me know where you're getting it from and I can do some more research for ya.

Yeah I don't want a fixed bracket that would suck!

Here's the TV I am looking at...

Target has that tv listed at $799 (http://www.target.com/Philips-42-1080p-LCD-42PFL3603D27/dp/B001E3XAI6/sr=1-18/qid=1234539940/ref=sr_1_18/191-5391967-9284167?ie=UTF8&index=target&field-browse=1038598&rh=k%3Aphillips%2Cn%3A10218751&page=1) which is pretty damn good for a 42".

They also have a 47" of that same tv for $1100. http://www.target.com/Philips-1080P-LCD-HDTV-47PFL3603D/dp/B0018MANWE/sr=1-1/qid=1234539940/ref=sr_1_1/191-5391967-9284167?ie=UTF8&index=target&field-browse=1038598&rh=k%3Aphillips%2Cn%3A10218751&page=1

The mounting bracket I would recommend (if you go this route) is http://www.target.com/Securmount-Tilting-Mount-37-60-WT-30/dp/B000JCV6S4/ref=sc_ri_2?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=17EKKN2GJAY8K7DXYW1T&pf_rd_p=465348991&pf_rd_i=B001E3XAI6&pf_rd_s=bottom-11&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=201

YOU DA MAN :cheers2:

but..

typical woman - I showed my wife the TV I decided on ... She said it was too small :(

So it looks like I am going with the same TV but in a 47" like you already found and I found it Wal-mart for $1098!

I wonder if Target will price match the $2 difference??

Yeah check the sale ads on sunday. I got a 42in Panasonic Plasma with an xbox and a 5 year plan for exactly a grand. They always have some kind of freebie to give away with the tvs. Think last week the had playstation 3's with one of their tvs. I put my tv down low so i bought a non-tilting mount for 30 or 40 bucks at walmart.

I would also shoo around online a bit for brackets. Especially on some site's clearance sections. Fried of mine got a really nice tilting, swivel bracket from Wal mart online a couple of months ago for $80. That was about 70% off. The bulk stores like BJ's and Sams have a couple of inexpensive ones also.

Once you get done hanging yours, feel free to come over and hang mine. I have been wanting to do it but for now it sits on my TV stand. Running the wires in the wall and putting holes in my wall makes me nervous.

Its a lot easier then you think. I was scared too but my father in law came over and helped me. Look online. Theres probably a video on you tube on how to do it. Get a circle drill bit. Drill at the top where you want the wires to go in and one at the bottom for them to come out. They have covers that make the holes look nice. Make sure you hit a stud for your bracket otherwise the dry wall will come down.

I did a ton of research on this very thing recently so here's what I found. I would suggest checking at the Radio Shack website and the one for Peerless brand (which Radio Shack sells) at peerlessmounts.com and AVF brand (avfgroup.com). The Peerless site has the full brochures on the products so you can see all the specs. I just got us one from Radio Shack online and it has a swivel/tilt and extends 20' from the wall which is hard to find. TV is only 32" though the Peerless model we got goes up to 40" tvs. With the major retailers like Radio Shack, I would also suggest googling "Radio Shack (or whatever the retailers name is + coupons) Coupons" and seeing if there is an online coupon you can use. Right now, Radio Shack has free shipping (until 2/28 I believe) on any non TV/Computer puchase if you spend $ 50 also. I ended up getting a TV mount that retailed for $149.99, was on sale for $119 and I saved 10% more with an online coupon I found for 10% off a $75 or more purchase.

I would check at CompUsa, Best Buy and Microcenter also if those stores are near you or you can order on line.

I would also suggest googling the site's name + "ratings" or "reviews" to see if the company has negative feedback on it. That saved me some headaches as well.

Good luck!

Thanks....it's making a mistake that I worry about...a wrong measurement here or there can = a mess. I plan on doing it soon though.

My wife wants it over the fireplace but unfortunately the cable and outlet are on the other side of the wall and I don't want to try moving that stuff. I think I will just mount it straight up from where it is one day while she is out and when she comes home just say ..."Whoops, forgot all about the fireplace thing!"

http://firefold.com

They have tilting wall mounts for up to 63" LCD's or Plasmas for 50$. Less for non tilting. They are located near concord mills so you don't have to pay shipping or anything. You can walk in and tell them what you want and they will bring it to you, but you can't really go in and shop around. You can also get all your cables for cheap. Got my HDMI cables for under 5.00 and my VGA cable for 6.99.
