Decertification

Wow, look how many people haven't paid any attention to the updates and news on this process over the last couple months.

How do you get this far into such a serious topic without a least trying to grasp the very basics.

A lot of us understand the basics but haven't done the reading to grasp the slightly more complicated parts of all of this.

they refused to give up any money without having full disclosure of financial documents.

I am beginning to wonder if they have someone on the inside that makes them believe there is something not right.

Otherwise, I have no idea why they would do this unless D. Smith really just wanted to go to court, which I guess is very possible.

I would wager that there is less than 5% of NFL players that could understand those financial documents. Basically, the NFLPA knew they wouldn't be given those documents and would then have a "reason" to go to the courts.

If there's no union, then wouldn't Smith be out of a job anyway?

Temporarily...until the Union re-certifies when this mess finally gets rectified. If the players come out on top smelling like roses, I'm sure he'll be tapped as the head guy again.

I know. Legally however they are not a union, so laws pertaining to unions do not apply. I personally would rather see the NFL continue with some type of agreement between clubs and force the players to play and re-work their deals without the protection of their union. (Players that don't want to play can get a real job)

I know that, it just seems wrong to dissolve a union to gain ground in litigation, then reform it after.

They can't re-certify for 6 years after de-certifying I believe.

The owners have teams of accountants explaining their own financial statements to them anyway. The NFLPA has a team as well ready to scour any statements...

NHL and the NBA opened up the books and that, unto itself, did not settle the players disputes with those Leagues.

What I gathered for the the presser watching ESPN was the owners were just scaling back the players piece of pie, not so they will lose that piece of pie they want, just get their pie in increments over time. In other words, the owners wanted to get the players revenue chunk set back to 2009 levels and in a matter of three years from NOW, get to the revenue level that the NFLPA wants currently.
