Voltron News

Voltron will never die. Is there a market for a CG-animated production with a Transformers-level budget based on the popular ’80s cartoon series, though? That’s what a lot of people who matter seem to think, as a bidding war has broken out over rights to the franchise, Vulture reports.

Relativity Media is said to be among the bidders, though the production might end up with Paramount Pictures since license owner World Events Productions recently inked a deal with Nicktoons, and both are owned by Viacom. World Events executive VP Robert Koplar did say that development is moving right along, and plans are still in place for a Voltron movie to be in theaters by 2013 or 2014.

Gosh. I'm on the fence with this one.

As a toy, and cartoon, Voltron (the lions) are pretty groovy. (Though the cartoon suffered from poor editing, at times a very thin plot, and sometimes bad animation... it was fairly epic)

As a live action film... giant combining LION robots in space... mmm... yeah... dunno about that.
