David Cornwell - Too bad he isn't in charge of the NFLPA instead of De Smith

Recommended Posts

Read this and thought I would share. Honestly, the best opinion article I've seen on the labor issue hands down. Really is a shame he isn't the one in charge of the NFLPA.

Path Towards a Solution

Thus far, the effort to find a solution to the problem of how NFL players are appropriately compensated for their unique investment in the game is bogged down in an argument over disclosure of current financial information relating to the 32 teams and the NFL. The issue of disclosure of current financial information focuses on whether NFL owners are presently making enough money or losing too much. This subjective debate is going nowhere because both sides are right. The NFLPA has a legitimate interest in ensuring that its members receive their fair share of the pie. NFL owners have a legitimate interest in maximizing the value of their business.

The solution for preserving NFL players’ and NFL owners’ legitimate business expectations begins with an agreement on the scope of future financial disclosure that is required to enable players to measure the performance of their annual investment in the game. Once players are able to measure the performance of their investment, the next step in the solution is developing a mechanism that enables players to receive a return on their investment, regardless of when that return on investment is realized.

How about the owners agree to give 50% to the players if each player with endorsements give the owners 50% of their endorsement monies.

You have a point. I never thought of it that way. If the NFL didn't give them their stardom, they would never have the endorsements they do. Even with Cam getting his, it's based on exposure through the NFL.

What about Jersey sales? The players don't get a cut from them!

But thats not a factor to the NFLPA. They want that and 50%.

DeMaurice Smith is a moron who is using this situation to try to gain clout. Taking this to the court system over 800 million out of something like 9 billion dollars? Just take your damn money and go home...Its more than any athlete SHOULD BE paid anyways.

    • Film Room Playlist _ NFL Pro — Mozilla Firefox 2024-11-25 10-20-11.mp4 🎯🎯🎯 There were a couple of "fans" yesterday saying that this wasn't a helmet-to-helmet shot... 👀 Looks like based on where Moore was and where the play ended, he'd have gotten maybe just a yard or two more. Chuba was downed at the KC 16 and Moore was on his way back to the QB, so the offense got what they could for the most part. After reviewing the all-22, Bryce made the right call here. Tremble was the hot and KC sent both LBs. He gets it out with a clear pocket but it's quickly collapsing. If there was a little more time it looked like AT came free at the end but whether or not Bryce would've been upright still is another story. Smart move to get the completion and keep the field goal in play to stay alive. George Karlaftis is about to get himself a big ole hug and Bryce heaves it to where David Moore is going. Trent McDuffie slipped just a step or two before this shot, but we can see the clear DPI here as he's wrapped around David Moore before knocking him over as the ball gets there.
    • I’m taking a TE early day 3 Ian Thomas and Tremble are FA.  We should have no desire to bring them back.   There’s more than enough film of ball bouncing off their hands or facemask.
    • Daniel Jones sometimes would sling it for 300 or 400 yards.  That's my stance.  We know what Bryce is.  If you consistently play any QB at this level, they largely are going to end up w/ some good days/games.  last time Mahomes was at BOA, Teddy Bridgwater threw for 300+ yards and a couple TDs and the Matt Rhule Panthers almost took him down.  We know what Bryce is.  Now we got people predictably falling into a predictable trap.
