8.8 Earthquake in Japan

What I'm really interested in is the developing situation with the Fukushima Nuclear Plant where the backup cooling water pumps are inoperable and the cooling water levels in the reactors are falling.

This could be huge if they can't get water into those reactors fast. Once they reach a certain point you cannot apply water to cool without a steam explosion.

Chernobyl, TMI anyone?

They had a japanese guy on GMA discussing this earlier... the guy was kind of blowing it off like it was no big deal, but he seemed a bit nervous... interesting. That could be really bad.

Just read on CNN.com that a Japanese cabinet official said the reactor cooling efforts are "not going as planned."

They've also evacuated a 3km radius from the plant.

Makes me wonder why they didn't have the foresight to put the backup pumps and fuel supplies above where a tsunami could affect them in the inundation zone.

Yeah, of all people you would think the Japanese would have that stuff planned out to the nth degree... particularly with their penchant for natural disasters there.

I just woke up. Watching the live coverage of it last night freaked me out bad. All you saw was this giant wave(looked more like a massive moving pile of mud and cars and boats) washing away MOVING cars and poo....

just unreal, can't believe this is happening.

I don't want to be specific about where I work, but people are all over this in my office. Conference rooms have been taken over. It is definitely serious.
