FYI on the Newton Debate

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I appreciate it, but it becomes a personal issue when someone calls insults you and your intelligence for not agreeing with their opinion. That's why it's a problem. He attacked me for saying I didn't put a lot of weight in what Billick or Jack f*cking Trudeau said.

Funny thing is, I've been on this board since day one, and since Mr. Scot came a few years later IIRC, I've never had a problem with him. EVER. So, who is letting personal feelings get in the way of real football discussion? I was cool with him, as I am everyone else, until they insult me.

Alright but sometimes you gotta just blow it off. If I went at everyone who insulted me like this I'd have shut the Huddle down by now.

Just be happy! :D

Wow...

Cast the first stone why don't you. I personally did stupid things as a teenager. I'm glad everybody isn't my s#@t and not letting the past be just that. Guess what, most people have done stupid stuff at a young age. BTW he bought the computer from somebody. We should all strive to measure up to your moral character.

The SEC has been giving players and their families money for years. Auburn wanted him badly enough to do it (there is still no solid proof) and they got what they wanted a dominant performance and a championship.

#4  A classic "thug" reference from the owner of a crystal ball.

#3 another borderline assumption that needs to be posted in Zod's Cam thread, it belongs there.

So the fact that other people have done it when it comes to buying players makes it ok? I would have the same reaction to any player who has that.

Yeah some people have done dumb stuff but you never hear about Aaron Rodgers, Payton Manning, Donovan McNabb, Drew Brees, etc doing dumb stuff like that.

Look I am not trying to say that nobody should ever get second chances, I am just saying that he is sending up a lot of red flags for someone who may be the first overall pick.

What I'm saying is that you shouldn't blame the player, blame the system. There are stars in the NFL who've taken lots of money and gifts from universities. Reggie Bush got something like $500G. I'm sure you would turn down $500G, wouldn't you?

Dumb stuff like that is buying electronics from somebody who is not Best Buy or HHGregg, what a dumbars! Did any of those other guys face so much scrutiny? I'd bet money those guys you mentioned have some dirt that can be dug up. Pure water cannot breed fish Pack.

Carolina Huddle Wrestlemania I

Get your tickets! :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

Nah. Not interested. These guys can rail to their hearts delight and I won't care.

I'm just tired of watching people act like no one can criticize Newton without having personal motives, and said so.

Actually said so pretty strongly the first time, but then pulled it back because I thought it was too harsh, not that it matters now, I guess

The notion that I could have personal feelings about something like who we pick at quarterback is pretty silly for those who know my real life.

well I am not saying that we punish the player. just saying it seems like he is more about money than about the game. And I wouldnt be bought, its just not something they would do. if I had a shot of going to the NFL I wouldnt mess that up for that kind of money.

And I really doubt any of those guys did stuff like that. I think its from the families they come from. Of course the mannings had tons of money already but most of the players I listed came from well off families so I am not saying that. but there are still a lot of players who came from poor families that didnt accept or ask for this money.

look I understand what you are saying that you need a second chance but you cant just say "oh it was small money so it doesnt matter"

All I am saying is that Cam has a lot of red flags for a potential first overall pick

Whats the point of posting, if you can't discuss the TOPIC in a civil manner. So you can pad up your online pie and rep. Get a life and leave the name calling for face to face encounters if the half of you have the balls to talk crap face to face.

Maybe this should be stickied. Some "well-respected" members on this board like to ignore this principle.

Disagree. I don't like reaching for need. I think you have to take the best player available who happens to fill a need, and I don't think Newton, Gabbert or any other QB fits that mold. Peterson and Dareus do.

But eventually we are going to have to have a QB. Its plain and simple Carson Palmer can only do so much for so long, and in this league you want be a good team or win games if you dont have a QB. And if Rivera dont get that QB he want be a head coach for long. Look at Rex Ryan he went out and got that QB even though i dont think Sanchez is that good but he is good enough to get the job done. Look at Rahiem Morris he went out and got Josh Freeman and up and rising QB and in a tough division. All I am saying is if we dont get that QB it might be consequences down the road. Should we just wait into next year and pray that we get the first pick to get Luck or should we try our hand on Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton.

I know that most draft scouts have blaine number 1, but can blaine really run our deep threat offensive system. IDK maybe we can find out next Thursday.

you dont have to agree its a fact. The media would have you believe its a matter of opinion but its not. Just listen to what I tell you and your life will be much better. What else does Cam have to do for you people. Men lie women lie numbers dont and neither does tape.

God you are pathetic.

You mention tape, so let's go there.

The only TAPE on Newton highlights a skillset and tendancies which DO NOT translate well into an NFL QB.

1. He directed a one-read offense

2. He never took snaps under center

3. He never had to read defenses and check off at the LOS...the coaching staff sent in the play and he ran it.

4. He did not show an ability to go through 3-4 receiver progressions on a play

What you did see was a big guy running and overpowering smaller players. That WILL NOT happen in the NFL. If he tries it, he will be carried off the field on a stretcher.

Can Cam do all of the things necessary to be a successful QB...very possibly.

Is ther any evidence from his college style and proves he will....no.

Cam is a natural athlete that quite frankly must LEARN many of the aspects of a position in the NFL. Not exactly a player that I want to take with the #1 pick.
