Mayock has Locker above Newton

Recommended Posts

Just because someone has their own opinion on something doesn't make them a hater.

When that opinion is based on factors outside of fact, it does.

And right now, of all the QB's in the draft, Newton is a head above anyone else statistically, athletically, and potential upside.

I've said for a while that my top 4 QBs are in that order as well with Mallet and Newton as interchangeable at 3/4.

People on here criticize us "Huggers" for talking about Cam as a winner saying "It means nothing." EVERY great QB in the NFL right now won at a high level in college.

There are only 2 QBs of any significance that didn't win a bunch of games in college. Cutler and Josh Freeman. Everyone else was a BIG time winner.

Here is what you have to consider though. Just because you win in college doesn't mean you will win in the NFL.

It's like this, every time I dip, I have to poo but not every time I poo am I dipping.

Do you understand? Those guys might have won but it doesn't relate to success because I promise you there are more guys that won in college that never even made it to the NFL than there are guys that won on both levels.

I get it though. Cam guys have nothing to stand on besides "Winning" and "awards" and so on because his actual, transferable QB play isn't that great. Keep the hope up! One day you'll convince us that he's really really good.

Maybe statistically, but it's hard to say athletically anymore.

Basically you just said he's raw and a project with great upside, not what I want with the #1 pick.

With the possible lone exception of Peyton Manning, EVERY successful QB ever drafted has been a "project" with "upside".

That isn't what has been said. They have said that "Winning means nothing" That is FALSE. Winning in college doesn't automatically translate to winning in the pros. But you know what? Losing in college almost always translates to losing in the NFL.

Nearly every "franchise" QB played in one of the BCS Bowls or had very high success in college.

Brees- played in a Rose Bowl

Peyton- 39-6 as a starter played in a couple Orange Bowls

Tom Brady- 20-5 as a starter Played in the Orange Bowl

Mike Vick- played for a National championship

Aaron Rodgers- Finished regular season 10-1 and 4th in the nation and would have gone to Rose Bowl if USC wasn't 11-0 and #1.

Big Ben- had a tiny school ranked 10th in the nation

The list goes on and on. It is no coincidence that the winners in the NFL were winners in college. It does translate. The above shows that this is obvious.

Winning in college doesn't guarantee winning in the NFL. But it is clearly a prerequisite to be successful. If you don't do it in college in won't suddenly happen in the NFL. Sorry. It doesn't happen.

Winning in college is not everything, but it most certainly does matter that a QB's teammates played better when he's in there. It also says a lot that Newton beat out a senior who started the year before Cam got there. All things being equal, there is not a coach in the country who wouldn't go with the experienced upper classman over a JUCO transer QB.

You don't seriously think Newton will be ready to start as a rookie, do you?

(and no, I don't want Locker either)

Don't matter. Clausen will probably picth a fit if the Panthers draft a QB anyway, so it will either be Moore or a veteran who starts if Cam/Blaine is not ready yet.

Winning still means nothing. If you look at all the guys that won in college and how many won in the NFL, It's probably a 70/30 split of guys who never got a start in the NFL or guys you've never heard of that "won" in college.

Winning is so far down on the list of requisites for a QB it's not even funny. It's a nice supporting argument, but it can't be the foundation of the argument.

Ken Dorsey, Chris Leak, Craig Krenzel, Graham Herrell, Matt Leinart, Derek Anderson, etc etc etc

Winning means nothing.

A lot of that is due to the top high school talent usually going to the programs that win a lot. It doesn't necessarily indicate success at the pro level.

Do you consider like Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, Drew Brees etc... big time winners in college football? Those three played for programs that were relatively average or slightly above average in their conference.

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
