top ten stupid reasons some panther fans don't want us to draft cam newton

Recommended Posts

1. Andrew Luck will be available next year. "we should wait a year and address the QB position next year! Even though we ranked 32nd in passing offense we should really wait"

2. Preconceived misconceptions about making reads and progressions. "well if nobody taught him that at the college level, he'll never learn, because apparently, QB coaches in the nfl are just fuging stupid and pooty at teaching guys to go through those reads and progressions compared to the college QB coaches"

3. 3 year project. Really? Where'd you come up with this specific timetable? "uh, well, you know, most qbs need x amount of yrs to be able to lead an offense. I mean there's a pooload of contradictions in recent history, but you know, just believe me because i know QBs i'm a QB guy"

4. Carson Palmer doesn't want to play in Cincinnati, or they have another QB from the island of misfit toys, AKA QB free agency, that they've got their dick dripping for. "HEY! Guess what that means! That means we can swap picks and get a veteran QB. He had good stats in Cincy, so that automatically means he'll come in and play good here immediately without a hitch! Right? ....Right? Right?! Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right?"

5. Non-success of mobile black QBs to win a superbowl automatically means that he will end up training himself to read and run and make the same mistakes they did at the pro level as well. You know, because there's no fuging chance in hell he'll use his mobility to extend plays behind the LOS while still looking downfield, no he's just going to dart into linebackers for 4 yard gains and hurt himself.

6. We should go in next season with Matt Moore as the starter. Because guys that have enough talent to assist people looking for plumbing supplies in home depot make great QBs that stabilize the position for years.

7. Inherited obsession with compiling raw talent on defense because you think that's the way no.1 defenses are built. "NO, we need to go BOWERS, PHIL TAYLOR in the third and then address offense no earlier than the 6th round, and if not Bowers than Patrick Peterson, Nick Fairley, or Patrick Peterson no.1. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS and and and it starts and ends in the trenches PPLZZ"

8. Vicarious conservatism on the part of their underlying OCD-causing fear of failure. "WHATIFITDOESNTWORKWHATAREWEGOINGTODOWENEEDTOMAKETHESAFEPICKBECAUSEITSTHESAFEPICKANDWEWONTFAILTHATWAYANDWELLENDUPWINNINGIFWEMAKETHESAFEPICKBECAUSETHATSHOWYOUWIN!!"

9. Retarded assumption that all good QBs are genuflecting cub scout leaders with the personality of a washboard. "This guy's got some charisma. No way we should draft him he's gonna whip his dick out on the field and give one of the topcats a roman war helmet"

10. Infatuation with picking lesser talented QBs in the middle-late rounds and then bringing up tom brady whenever someone argues the infeasibility of a QB picked in those rounds becoming successful. "Well you know it's not impossible so we're automatically better off doing it there"

HONORABLE MENTION

"Because he looks like Jamarcus in physical form"- yes, people actually think this is a good point

"because he's black"- Now I agree with everyone that thinks KT is stupid because he thinks anybody who disagrees with him is a racist by default and fires his prejudiced sticker gun at someone whenever they make a good point about not wanting a QB who happens to be black, but hunt and peck and you'll see some people inadvertently post racist bullpoo about Cam

"he had a bad combine that doesn't look good"- If he had a good combine they'd say "pffffftt, it's just the combine it really doesn't matter this one player i'm bringing up that had a good combine and became a bust also had a good combine so there"

Some people will suggest the "smoke screen" argument, but that usually comes as a propaganda push after they've given their reasoning. They could be making a smoke screen, or they could actually be genuinely interested in the guy because they're not anonymous recluses who've had only one moment in their life they worked hard on something which was when they built their C3PO suit for the Star Wars con.

and now cut to ronnie

If the Carolina panthers keep the pick. Cam Bewton will be In Carolina if they go defense look at Marcell Dareus or Nick Fairley. But if they trade the pick it could be anybody. But In April I think Cam Newton will be the pick if we pick number 1.

I like how the PP7 contingent is gaining strength. Here is my top 10 why some panther fan's want Cam Newton.

1. oooh i want a mobile QB. I wanted Vick but cause he was (black, dogkiller, or whatever) the Panther's would not take a chance on him.

2. I am a bandwagon Steelers fan that loves Big Ben Rapistberger and Cam could be a faster version of Ben

3. It's about winning not being a stand up dude. Stolen PC's, cheating on tests, greedy daddys, etc etc dont matter as long as we win.

4. Auburn was awesome this year. It's not like the NCAA could have harassed them instead of UNC and the ACC could have possibly contended for a title.

5. that new NEWTON jersey would be really cool. number 2 sales here we come. Green's as a Bengal will be the best seller.

6. Unreasonable belief that if a QB does not come into the league and play like he belongs from day one then he does not belong. For every rookie sensation there is those that developed slower.

7. A complete lack of confidence in our scouting department to know what a qb should look like. They picked Jimmy and Pike so obviously i know we need a QB and they don't.

8. he's black

9. it's not there money. If given the choice between buying a Masarati ( PP and AJ Green) or a blinged out, escalade( Cam) for the same price most sane folks would choose the sports car. Some would not.

10. Who cares why some folks want Cam. He's a flavor of the month type of pick. All upside and risk. A huge risk that would set us back for 5 years easy.

They used to tank cod from Alaska all the way to China. They'd keep them in vats in the ship. By the time the codfish reached China, the flesh was mush and tasteless. So this guy came up with the idea that if you put these cods in these big vats, put some catfish in with them and the catfish will keep the cod agile. And there are those people who are catfish in life. And they keep you on your toes. They keep you guessing, they keep you thinking, they keep you fresh. And I thank god for the catfish because we would be droll, boring and dull if we didn't have somebody nipping at our fin

My son wants a Honda with a sun roof. It is not very old and sounds good when it runs. New paint, tires, and a great stereo system. It has 280,000 miles and they do not have the hiistory of the car for us.

The book value of the car is $2400 without the high mileage. They are frim at $3500. He is determined that we are buying the car with the new paint, sun roof and great stereo. He does not seem to understand that it is a disaster waiting to happen. He only sees the glitter.

I feel like I am having the same conversation here.

Lol your son wanting to invest in some shitty import tuner has nothing to do with this

Hey, Cam Newton had good stats in College Football and not in the NFL like Carson Palmer has done, so that means he'll come here and play good immediately without a hitch! Right? ....Right? Right?! Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right?

Honestly I don't care if we get Palmer/Newton either way

Just putting logic in this~

Well then try again because somewhere between pressing the quote button and pressing the post reply button you failed miserably

Independent of the player, we have a brand new head coach who will be forever connected to the pick. If he picks a bust at a high profile position such as QB, it could likely cost him his job a few years down the road. That's a huge risk for a rookie head coach. It would show some major ka-jonnies for him to pick Newton. More likely he goes with a DT, who plays in an area he has much more familiarity with.

The flip side of that coin is this.

Say we pass this year on QB in the draft. We sign Volek to a two year deal. We improve but still don't make the playoffs. We go 6-10. We pick 12th overall next year. We draft a QB (I will use Barkley just for naming purposes, this has nothing to do with barkley as a player).

So we draft Barkley. Volek was solid his first year , has a year left on his contract, and Rivera doesn't want to start a rookie QB so he gives Barkley one year to develop behind Volek. Again we don;t make the playoffs. We go 7-9.

Year three of Rivera's tenure he lets Volek walk and finally starts Barkley. Barkley has some flashes but has the same struggles as any QB in their first year as a starter even with some time on the sidelines would have and we go 6-10.

Well then Rivera is fired. He is gone. That is the nature of the NFL.

So it may seem risky, but he will have a full 2 years to develop a guy he drafts this year before he goes on the hot seat which is usually year 3. If he waits till next year, that rookie will be thrown right into the fire and asked to sink or swim.

Also if you draft a QB this year and it appears he won't work out, a coach has time to try and fix the problem after year 2. If you wait until next year, Rivera will essentially have all of his eggs in one QB's basket.

So in a lot of ways, for Rivera it may actually be riskier to wait a year than to go ahead and get "his guy" and know he will have the leeway to develop him before he is in a sticky situation.

Bottom line is Rivera's job down the road will be dependent on how they address the QB position or maybe I should start with saying it will be Hurney's job first  If the Panthers offense continues to struggle, and the QB position continues to be abysmal with no hope for the future they both will lose their jobs. So their futures are most dependent on addressing the QB position and this teams offense - whether they do it first via seeing this season what Clausen can do and if needed drafting a QB next year, or just drafting a QB this year with seeing how both him and Clausen develop. So if Rivera, Hurney, etc think Cam or Gabbert can be a franchise guy its in their best interest to draft one now. Having a great defense is not going to help them keep their jobs if they still keep finishing last in the division.
