Where do you rank the top players?

I assume the OP is talking about skill as a football player, not athlete. The ability to play their position technically proficient. In that case Cam has to be #10, easily. Everyone knows he has deficiencies in his football game. If you're talking potential he's easily top 3, mostly due to his athleticism and apparent desire to succeed. But here's my list based on FOOTBALL skill:

1a. A.J. Green

1b. Patrick Peterson

03. Von Miller

04. Marcell Dareus

05. Robert Quinn

06. Da'Quan Bowers

07. Julio Jones

08. Brandon Harris

09. Blaine Gabbert

10. Cam Newton

Seriously? Umm OK...

Then who would be your to 10?

If you spend some time watching Gabbert, he misses open recievers, and recievers in single coverage. He's also not an accurate QB, at least in college, playing in that spread offense he looked a lot worse than the previous QB Chase Daniel. Do not want.

Gabbert has a big powerful arm, and that's what teams are looking to take a chance on. But my god he wasn't good at making reads, he wasn't accurate, he's just a big lummox who might improve leaps and bounds, so he could go high on a wish and a prayer. This QB class blows.

It's hard for me to put them 1-10, but I'll say this, out of pure football ability that will easily translate to the pros (or at least translate the easiest), for some reason, I would have Peterson as my #1. Julio Jones, Green, and Dareus are all right behind him. Then Cam somewhere after them, and I'm still not sure whether I'd put Gabbert ahead of him or behind him in terms of making the easiest transition. But, I am hoping for us to pick Cam because his ceiling is so high.

I'll admit that I have not watched a lot of Missouri games. But from what I have seen, he looked pretty accurate to me. And as far as Chase vs Blaine, you are right in saying that Gabbert played in the same offense. However, that was the problem with their offense IMO. The Missouri offense was built around Daniels, but it appeared they did nothing to adjust that offense to fit Gabbert's skills.

I guess we can agree to disagree.

You like Gabbert, and you're entiltled to your opinion. A lot of scouts are high on him as well, so maybe he's doing something I haven't seen. I hope we stay clear of him, but I have no say in the matter.

How would you have changed the Missouri offense to favor Gabbert's unique skills.

Here's how Missouri changed it's offense to better suit Gabbert after he completed only 58.9 percent of his passes his sophomore year in a super easy spread offense with wide open recievers. The plan was simple, give Gabbert more short routes to throw to, so he can look somewhat decent.

Ok I'll leave Gabbert alone. Maybe we'll take him and he'll be great. I think I'm going to have a heart attack during the draft.

You seem to have watched more of Missouri than I have. So you very well could be right. I'd be interested to see how your top 10 would look then.

I've been watching Missouri games off and on (in a not so legal way) for a few years. I couldn't really make a top 10 because I have not seen much of a few of the players considered to be in the top 10.

I can tell you that Bowers is a massive man beast who doesn't have a lot of moves yet, and it doesn't matter. He can blow by an OT off the line, or bull rush and totally overwhelm him. I like it!

Cam is really raw, hot and cold, but decent accuracy, and a cannon for an arm.

I don't know how much of a difference PP could make sitting back in our zone, so dunno that we would take him, but he looks great. If he can run the 40 like Deion Sanders, then he might be a top 5 pick.

Marcell Dareus is a guy I didn't notice much during the season. I hear he's good.

Fairley is quick for his size, and he has a good motor. Seems like he's faster than you would expect for his build.

Some of the other guys I didn't see during the season.

Given that I recently learned that college stats don't matter, what system they came from, their acheivements etc are all crap then it doesn't matter how good they are now, they aren't playing anything or doing jack. And they play different positions so ranking different players who are all number 1 at thier position has to be on some continuum like athleticism, how well they will project into the pros, what tools they bring, who will make the biggest impact their rookie year, who will be the best in 3 years, who will be the perennial all pro, etc.

Until we get a common denominator to evaluate them, this thread is crap like so many others.

Just because they are number 1 at their position doesn't mean they are the same level of football player. Peterson is miles ahead of Cam in terms of being a football player, etc.

You added someone not from the original list

My list is:

Peterson

Green

Miller

Dareus

Quinn

Bowers

Jones

Gabbert

Fairley

Newton
