The Cam Newton and Race Thread!

Except that The Golden Calf of Bristol also had huge concerns about his throwing motion and even how he holds the ball in the pocket. Those things are not a concern with Newton. All he needs is to shore up his footwork.

When a guy can miss nearly half his throws with no defense pressuring him, footwork is definitely not his only issue.

:mad2: Completion percentage is the least important thing at these things.

I can tell how much it hurt him since nearly 10 teams are trying to figure out a way to get him.

Who the hell are you talking about? Cam didn't miss half his throws.

The fact is, if The Golden Calf of Bristol didn't have such an awful throwing motion, they would have been talking about his as a top 5 pick. You know it and I know it.

True.

I don't get the The Golden Calf of Bristol or VY comparison as far as comparing there passing.

11 of 21 at the Combine (and the "didn't have his own receivers" argument is crap).

No, the Combine isn't more important than game film, but again when a guy has only 50% accuracy with no pressure in his face, that's a red flag. Not sure how anyone can argue that's not concerning.

You just lost your right to claim that workouts mean nothing, Mr. Scot.

Anyway, Cam looked much better on his pro day and he threw a lot more passes and a wider variety of routes. Like I said before, everybody was looking for improvement, not 100% accuracy anyway.

This just goes to show that Gabbert was smart not to throw at the combine, because as much as people claim that nobody will hold bad throws against them, it's simply not true.

All I heard him say in his interview is that he was unprepared to throw to "windows" or "spots" and that he should have been more prepared AND that he will not be caught unprepared in the future.

He DID say that the recievers were from the MAC, SWAC etc and that came off as more of a joke than anything, judging by the swell of laughs from the NFLN hosts.

FWIW (which is probably not much in this discussion)

It's been something his supporters here have thrown around a lot to explain the bad Combine.

I think it's silly myself. He had a bad Combine throwing performance. No point making excuses for that. Makes more sense to argue the relevance (or lack of it) of the combine than to try to explain that away.

So the Combine doesn't matter, but the Pro Day does? Is that what I'm getting here?

WMoon1 Warren Moon Official

@ @TheKurb Unbelievable work ethic! He is a perfectionist to the point u have to slow him down. #Cam learned a complicated Offense @Auburn!

I asked him about Cam's work ethic and ability to learn new offenses. (something I have yet to question but others have)

I know. But the kid basically said, "I threw badly because I was unprepared" and while he did have a bad combine throwing he was at least honest.

I have yet to endorse a guy as the #1 pick (like that even matters), but accuracy of information would go a long way.

Did he throw poorly- Yes, so huggers don't make excuses

did he own up to it- Yes, so haters stop hating already

Should he have been better prepared- Yes, and he knows it

In my 11+ years of managing people there's one trait I look for and that's honesty. If you can be honest with me I can make you a good employee, even if your skills are lacking.

Say what you want about the guy but he has been honest in his self-critique. (must have learned some lessons in honesty earlier in life, hmmmm)
