The Cam Newton and Race Thread!

But the best Qb in this draft could be the 6th best in next years. Just because he is the best QB in the class doesnt mean he is good.

Ryan Mallett dominated Matt Barkley in every major category while playing in a pro style offense last season. This year he is rated 3/4 and is better than the perceived #2 next year. So that is

This time last year who was Cam Newton? Matt Barkley also out performed Luck when they played against each other.

well here is some gas on the fire:

Historically (with some exceptions) - the majority of successful QB's in the NFL have been caucasian. Now is that because white guys got more breaks in life? I don't know, I can only speak from a historical perspective. I only recall 1 black QB winning a SB - Doug Williams. Now might this in some unconscious way cause many people to be against a black QB? Could be!

Now, with that history - many people might be against a black QB solely from the standpoint of: Statistically a team stands a better chance of winning it all with a white QB.

I'm not here to say whether that philosophy is right, wrong, true or not - but it is statistically true with NFL QB's.

As for me personally, I have a strong opinion of pople that come off as arrogant, show/entertainer, my crap don't stink - and I think that skews my perception of Newton. I fear that his desire to showboat will cause the team to not have ultimate success - does not matter to me the color of his skin - I just want the team to succeed.

To me Newton comes across as flaunting his skills and personality - I don't feel comfortable with that at the QB position - (as statistically) the stable/level headed, only get excited after big play or score QB's have the most success. I want success - not showboating.

One of Barkley's only 2 good games against BCS opponents. He had a couple okay games. But only two good games. Cal and Stanford.

Not impressed.

Not an insult. Mallett is a good QB. Better than Barkley who people think is the second QB in next year's class.

Mallett is 3rd or 4th in this class??

I actually have Mallett #2 in front of Gabbert and I have since the beginning.

It's not about college performances, especially single game college performances and especially not head to head between QBs.

You guys are clowns trying to argue that. Well a beat b but b beat c and d might be better than b but a definitely is better than d but it's weird because ***!

It's about tools people. What do you bring with you to the next level.

FTR, It's still Gabbert, Locker, then Newton/Mallet as interchangeable

Mallett is a lot better than Barkley. I am sorry TRD. I like everything you say. Even if I don't admit it and give you a hard time. Barkley does not compare against Mallett.

I agree with the head to head performances and college stats, BUT you need to have good performances against really good teams and Barkley only had one.

USC has had a top 5 recruiting class like 6 years straight. He has amazing talent around him. He needs better performances. Throwing for 75 yards against Oregon State doesn't quite cut it. Throwing 8 picks in his last 5 games doesn't cut it. He regressed throughout the year. Playing 5 straight games to end the season and having 6 tds to 8 ints doesn't do it.

I get it but look at Mallett. He had an amazing 9 games of passing for 300 yards or more last season. He had 1 bad game against Mississippi. Even against Alabama when he had 3 picks he completed 66% of his passes and 357 yards.

I know what you are saying but Mallett is light years ahead of Barkley.

He is 3 inches taller, has a stronger arm, and is more accurate. He is slow. That is about all.

But Barkley is a true sophomore and has at least a year to improve so that can change a lot. So I recognize that

I am making a bold prediction right now. Mallett is off the board by pick 12. Locker falls to second round.
