Justin Tuck on Cam Newton

Well put it this way, Tuck is right, he's not going to get it done the same way he did in college. Who's denying that though? All the teams are trying to develop him into an NFL QB, who's saying that he's going to be guy? BTW, it's a stretch that the athletic QB (over the mastermind QB) has no place in the NFL. I honestly think the biggest reason big Ben gets it done is because of his ability to shrug off tacklers and buy time. He's no rocket scientist now. Same thing with Vick. Am I saying that he's going to be on the same level? Not necessarily, but I don't see why he can't succeed either. He'll need to be pretty football smart btw, I'm not saying that intelligence isn't important, but he doesn't need to have Peyton Manning's brain.

He also runs. He kept at least two drives alive in the Superbowl because of his running, and that's wasn't exactly the first time he's ever done it either. They may not have been 60yd runs, but they moved the chains, which is all that matters. In college, he was negative yardage when he ran.

In college Ben had negative rushing yards because sacks count as rushing yards in college and Ben always holds the ball forever and gets sacked a ton

This is another example of why you morons who only look at stat lines have no clue what you are talking about

Jimmy Clausen 68% passer!

Cam Newton is accurate!

Ken Dorsey just winzzzz!

Or that Cam had over 1,000yds rushing in college, against better competition than Big Ben, and even though sacks count as negative rushes? You're a freakin genius!

so, if we draft Cam and he runs all over the field extending plays for the first 3 games and we get all excited - then in game 4 he gets his clock cleaned by an NFL (not college) DB, LB and ends up out for the season with broken leg, broken ankle, concussion etc... and our season goes down the tubes - it was worth it huh?

No doubt he will run around and extend plays, but just like Vick this past season, McNabb every year, Moon 1/2 of his career and just about every other "running in College" QB.... it will not last for long in the NFL. Bigger players, faster players and more discipline to stay in position..... he will be seriously injured eventually.

I'd rather take my chances with a pocket passer that only runs when his life depends on it. Historically those are the QB's that win super bowls. Say what you want, but one fact remains through out the history of the NFL - Superbowl winning QB's are the ultimate game managers - steady, calculating and not taking too many risks. I don't recall any Superbowl winning QB's that were the "look at me I'm the star" types. QB is the team leader - not the entainment specialist.

We have to remember 1 thing here. The goal is to win the superbowl - not sell highlight DVD's.

I would not want Cam Newton taking the punishment Stew or any other RB does. I don't care if he's bigger, hell, even Big Ben has to play injured and has missed time once in a while due to it...

I don't want him to either. But he has the size to absorb more punishment than most QB's. Not saying I want him too. But you can't compare him to Vick who is in a wide receivers body to Newton who is in a tight end's body.

They will absorb punishment differently.

But to be clear, I don't want him to take that much punishment either. But he isn't a delicate flower.

so if i had an avatar of some other player - like from the SEC, then I'd have all kinds of credibility?

Only cool if you root for high profile players? No one can have their own favorite unless its the same as yours?

OK, I'll keep that in mind.......not

    • bruh I know you're trying to keep up with your whole panthers are dumb and make dumb moves shtick, but just maybe try to comprehend things a little bit better next time. not everyone has time to sit on here and try to make things make sense for you. I know you spend a lot of time on here. most people don't.  we just spent a high pick on Brooks. he is hurt and going to have to sit this season out and heal. there is no reason to draft another rookie running back when you have Hubbard locked up and hopefully a promising Brooks when healthy. This is like a redshirt season for him, I know you don't watch college ball, but that is a term used for people sitting out a season.  signing a 1000 yard back to spell your other 1000 yard back while your high pick back sits out a year isn't usually something people bitch about, but here you are queen.  *INCOMING ONE LINER!*
    • They need to avoid the 2nd round curse. Just take one in the 3rd or later until you hit on one.
    • This offense would be potent if we added Higgins into it with everything else we have. Just use whatever is left from the trade on defense and let's go
