Justin Tuck on Cam Newton

I've definitely gotten the impression that Philly fans are ready to move on, especially if that out-of-left-field DC choice goes bad.

He's all in with that one. I am not big on phanatical philly fans but I have to admit they have a point and I don't necessarily disagree with them. They want a championship and it is hard to argue that Reid is the reason that they don't have one but he is also the reason they have been so close. Call us spoiled but it's like a repeat record ever year, and I am getting tired of listening to it also. We have the Phillies and Philly is becoming a baseball town. Ok...now it is off topic...

Big Ben... runs? He scrambles. There's kind of a difference. He had 176 yards this year.

He also runs. He kept at least two drives alive in the Superbowl because of his running, and that's wasn't exactly the first time he's ever done it either. They may not have been 60yd runs, but they moved the chains, which is all that matters. In college, he was negative yardage when he ran.

He's in Marty Schottenheimer territory right now.

Some guys get over that hump (Dungy, Cowher). Others don't (Dennis Green). Will Reid? Hard to say.

He scrambles for yards... which means that once in a while he'll keep drives alive with his legs when nobody is open after he prolongs plays.

I don't really consider Big Ben a "running quarterback," but eh. Oh well.

I wouldn't call him a running QB either. I would call him a big and mobile QB though....his size and mobility is what makes him good though.

Somebody forgot to tell Mike Vick and Big Ben that athletic QB's don't last long.

Of course Cam won't come into the NFL trying to do what he did at Auburn... LOL

And in a combined 15 seasons, how many times have either one started all 16 games?

Answer: Twice

Vick is 6'0 like 210 pounds. Cam is 6'6 250 pounds. Bigger than Jonathan Stewart.

Now I completely agree we don't want him running the ball 10+ times a game. But his body is better equipped to take some punishment. Comparing him to Vick in regards to wear and tear is a tricky thing to do.

Cam Newton is bigger than any linebacker on our roster right now.

While Cam has impressive numbers in the physical stature department, all that goes out the window when you are the target instead of the defensive pursuer. Of course big RB's and TE's can give the punishment when the hit is coming, but you never want the QB to do that, ever.

I agree. But when it does happen he is a guy that is built to withstand it better than, say Peyton Manning.

Nobody want him running 15 times a game. But when he does run he is bigger than Jonathan Stewart. I mean he is still a football player. He will be able to absorb some hits. As he gets better and more comfortable with the NFL, he will hopefully take less and less hits.

But I am not worried about this guy being as delicate flower.
