Justin Tuck on Cam Newton

Probably won't get much support on this, but Roethlisberger's not that great.

He's essentially a game manager whose performance gets inflated because he's hard to bring down. His passing isn't even in the same ballpark as guys like Manning, Brady or Brees.

Throw in that of the three Super Bowls he's played in, he was decent in one but stunk in the other two.

I had him as "good" in my scale and got flamed because I didn't have him as elite.

Ben came out of an option spread offense?

Ben is mobile, but it a pocket passer. He can extend plays, but his running ability doesn't scare anyone.

How do people not understand this yet? HOW?!?

Tuck wasn't talking about guys playing in a spread offense in college....

Ben is pretty raw. Always has been. He likes to extend plays and is very athletic....and plays his best ball when he extends plays and is allowed a some wiggle room. Cam imo could easily play the game a lot like Ben.

Just b/c Cam is a bigger threat as a runner doesn't mean there aren't a lot of similarities. Ben's size and mobility does scare people. A lot of people. Cam has that skill set. Just b/c he has an added trick up his sleeve doesn't mean that will be his bread and butter and just take off as a RB.

Vick isn't even comparable to Newton. Vick was one of the best passers in the league last year, to the point teams could no longer focus on just the rushing aspect of his game.

Also just FYI, in those two games Tuck recorded 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Like I said, he would have no trouble getting to Newton.

and as said above, Vick is much faster and more elusive than Newton.

Vick had DeSean Jackson and squared off against a lot of lower-tier pass defenses. By season's end he was starting to tail off and opponents were "catching up".

I won't be surprised if his next season shows some decline.

Can't deny his improvement from when he last played.

He went from rushing the ball after one read, to scanning the field and only rushing when he absolutely had to.

Say again what I've said elsewhere. Success in Reid's version of the WCO has generally not translated to success elsewhere.

(take a look at McNabb)

Vick is 6'0 like 210 pounds. Cam is 6'6 250 pounds. Bigger than Jonathan Stewart.

Now I completely agree we don't want him running the ball 10+ times a game. But his body is better equipped to take some punishment. Comparing him to Vick in regards to wear and tear is a tricky thing to do.

Cam Newton is bigger than any linebacker on our roster right now.

Truth be told, I don't think having Vick as the QB in Philly is 100% Andy's choice. I think he would rather have what Justin Tuck is speaking of but as each year goes by without a SB, his authority on personnel decisions decreases just the same. Bit off subject though. Carry on....

Nah. It's consistent with stuff I've said about Reid before.

Not that he isn't a very good head coach, but he's yet to "close the deal" and his list of excuses and scapegoats has grown over the years.

I've definitely gotten the impression that Philly fans are ready to move on, especially if that out-of-left-field DC choice goes bad.
