Newton’s pro day shows why he shoulf be No 1

Just personally, but I find it more than difficult to judge a QB (as far as NFL status) when they're throwing to their own guys with no defensive backs or defensive rush, and this goes for ANY college QB (I feel the need to say that considering all of the racial poo). I mean, it's not all about a simple, smooth routine with no obstruction in that case...

I think in that atmosphere its about ball placement and dropping back from under center (foot work)

clearly there were 5 drops of those incomplete balls so that makes cam 55 for 60, plus he was throwing into a pretty stiff wind, but i guess that means nothing to Mr. Scot

3 were confirmed drops, not 5.

Also, the WR's bailed him out on a few throws, so 3 is pretty accurate.

Give me a break with the wind, he's got a cannon for an arm, it shouldn't have impacted the throws by much. If it had there would have been more bad throws and would have shown some sort of pattern,

Panthers meeting with Newton tonight?

No, but the Bills did.

This is not true. Cam was inconsistent and off every few passes. He had receivers who basically stopped on their routes to make catches behind them a couple times or made leaping/tumbling catches to pull balls in.

He threw some really nice balls but he also completely missed others. He was nowhere near as polished as the other two names mentioned.

That's not something you want to have to count on in the pros on any sort of regular basis.

Can we just skip the rest of March and most of April please??

You wish.

(who am I kidding; so do I) :(

I didn't watch Newton so I have no true opinon on him. But if we draft him I hope it's based on what he did on the field, not what he did in shorts.

nothing he showed today alone is going to make anyone want to draft him #1.

if you thought he was a great prospect you likely still think he's a great prospect...

but the panthers won't draft him solely because of today if they do go after him.

Mav watched the workout and pointed out that Newton was off on several passes, but his receivers were able to adjust and make the catch.

That's a pretty easy thing to do in a workout with no defenders. In an actual pro level game? Not so much.

You're not the only one. It's one of the major flaws of workouts (see above).

With a thread titled "Newton’s pro day shows why he shoulf be No 1" seems like some people disagree

Well, you have to remember you've got some guys on here who are pretty well sold out on this. Newton could have gone 0 for 100 today and that bunch would still have declared it a great showing or found something that explained it away (gale force winds, perhaps) :sosp:

My stance hasn't changed, but then it was already known that I don't put much stock in workouts.

I don't understand putting so much stock in throwing at the combine/workouts. You have at least a year's worth of tape on a guy. How is him throwing without a defense an indication of how good he will be?

That's because a lot of people on this board are blind. Newton would be a good pick maybe in the 5-10 range after watching today. #1 is to much of a reach. Qb is our biggest need if Clausen doesn't work out. That doesn't mean we reach and take a qb with the #1 that isn't deserving. We have other wholes on the team too that would instantly be upgraded if we take another player. Dareus PP or even Green. We cannot afford to miss on this pick Newton looked average at best today.
