Newton’s pro day shows why he shoulf be No 1

Just because there was a couple of passes drop or over thrown.

This is not true. Cam was inconsistent and off every few passes. He had receivers who basically stopped on their routes to make catches behind them a couple times or made leaping/tumbling catches to pull balls in.

He threw some really nice balls but he also completely missed others. He was nowhere near as polished as the other two names mentioned.

Didn't really see a lot of that. Maybe 3 or 4 but that is why completion percentage means crap in these things. At the combine he only really made 4 bad throws when you really broke it down but everyone focused on the 11-21 bs.

I think he did pretty well for himself today. Maybe I am biased but i tried not to be.

He isn't Sam Bradford at this point but I don't think anyone expects him to be. He also has some attributes that Bradford doesn't have that could make him just as effective as Bradford and possibly even better over time.

Who said he was as polished dropping from center to throw 3, 5 and 7 step drops as Bradford or Ryan? Not most folks. What is exciting is how much improvement he has made in such a short time. Bradford and Ryan have little upside athletically. What you saw their rookie year is what you will see four or five years from now. Newton is quite the opposite. What you see now is only a small sample of what he can or should be in a few years. You can either take a more polished guy who peaks quickly and never significantly improves or you can take a guy who is still rough around the edges with unlimited potential.

I would rather take the latter versus the former.

Cam's quote" Cam feels like Cam did a better job throwing today than Cam did at the Combine. Cam was not used to those slow non SEC receivers then and today Cam had Cams' receivers to throw to. And Cam will make sure that whatever team Cam is drafted by only has Cams' receivers on the team so Cam can show that Cam deserves the big money Cam will receive. And that's all Cam has to say about Cam"

I am not the brightest. But I am pretty sure whatever team drafts Cam will have Cam's receivers on it. :D

Nah uh... CAM ONLY WON THE HEISMAN BECAUSE OF THE AMAZING RECEIVERS HE HAD AT AUBURN!!!11!!!!!111!!ZOMG!

BTW... not a Cam fan at all. But the poo on both sides is getting ridiculous.

Hey look, it's a Cam Newton thread!

In it, you'll find:

- Indefinite statements about how Cam might not be worth the #1 pick.

- Scoffing at somebody or trolling the OP or anyone else who is pro-cam.

- Somone helping with the scoffing.

- Someone else Giving refereces to other analysts opinions, usually about other players.

I've yet to see any of you give any sort of reason to draft anyone else. Even if we "Trade Down", WHO are we trading down for? There's a good chance none of the better players in the draft will be around if we "trade down".

Consider this my final reply to the Cam-hate-club...

Game's over chumps. We've had the media workout... we've had the combine... we've had the Pro day. There's no other big time opportunity to show what he was or wasn't made of.

And through the whole process, he's risen from a "2nd rounder" prior to Luck not declaring, to the #1 overall on several analysts mock drafts.

If he was a disaster, or as big a "project" as was claimed about him, his draft stock wouldn't have changed. Several top Analysts wouldn't be saying all the positive things about him.

From here on out, pending a definite statement from Rivera or Hurney to the media about who is going #1 overall, the debate is over as far as I'm concerned. We need a QB. Hurney's said it. Rivera has said it. April 28th, we'll have the best seat in the house to find the best one rising from the college ranks. Right now, that QB is Cam Newton #2 - Auburn - Heisman Trophy winner, BCS Champion.

Fortunately our new HC gets it. Why you folks don't, well... to each their own I guess.

Great post. Simply and succinctly put - WHO IS worth the #1 pick more than another guy based on what they've done in their college careers? Now, what is our biggest need that can't be satisfactorily addressed in FA?

The answer to the first question is it's a push for the most part - but when you factor in what Cam did in one season on the field and his physical tools, as well as potential with those tools, I'd say he's the favorite.

The answer to the second question is QB. Point blank. We can pick up a quality DT somewhere in the 3rd with one of two picks there, or a fairly quality DT from FA. QB must be addressed and the FA class doesn't fit what we need. So that leaves us to choose from Cam or Gabbert, and as of right now, I'm going with Cam.

Was just listning to John Clayton on ESPN aand they were talking about QBs and where they might go.

General thinking is that Cincy would rather let Palmer retire than trade him. McNabb is reportedly getting interest from Minnesota and Arizona. Minnesota considered the best choice and where he would be the best fit. Problem is that there won't be a decision until after the draft. Hasselback will likely go back to Seattle.

So other than a guy like Volek, who really is a go no where do nothing kind of guy, exactly what free agent quarterback are we getting instead of Newton or Gabbert.

I hear people saying that is how we will go but honestlyy if there is no QB worth the number 1 pick, there is no body out there who we can realistically get who woul be worth trading for. C.mon those who want a FA, who exactly is worth trading for.

If we don't draft anyone expect Moore and Clausen to be the guys we go with in 2011. I don't think I could take that.

As Fred Sanford used to say: Elizabeth, I am coming to be with you. This is the big one..................

I want a player who wins football games. Cam is not a typical QB and because of that versatility he can win many different ways. Making a big deal about a poor performance at the combine and an average performance at a pro day is, in my opinion a big mistake. Just listening to him talk in an interview after the pro day workout shows that he understands what he needs to do and that he is learning how to be a more mature person. He wins championships, period... Heck he can fall forward at the five yard line with his hand stretched out and make a dang TD! .... Hypocrites judge his previous actions in college....There are many successful businessmen in the US today who also did some very stupid things in college as well.... I like his confidence and his sincere approach to talking about his ability and his need to improve. Personally I have grown to respect him more in the past few months by the way he has handled the microscope following his every move. I say pick him number 1.

Okay I understand, what you are saying but i think you got the wrong perception on what i said. I said just because there was some over thrown passes and some was drop dont mean he is not going to be good. He isnt Matt Ryan and he aint bradford. It just going to take time for him to become a NFL QB...With the rite work ethic and commitment he could be good..
