Newton’s pro day shows why he shoulf be No 1

THe good news for Cam Newton: There was no defense, there were no dbs to read, there was no rush. Better than Indy

The bad news for Cam: The wind was out of the SW ranging from 5 to 15 mph, he could not tuck and run, and he was not accurate for the most part. Many throws were high and a few behind WRs.

He seemed winded and tired and the WRs didn't. In fairness, I wondered if he was sick.

Actually the wind was pretty bad inside Lucas Oil Stadium that day. Rex Ryan was watching his workout closely and having judged the annual NFLPA Chilli Combine the night before, gale force winds were reported in his vicinity. :D

Who amongst us has not had that problem...

Actually, I believe Cam is better when the pads are on and the game is on the line, than he is throwing against air. I've seen him throw some pretty damn accurate passes with guys in his face or around his feet, and he had to use nothing but his arm, which will happen quite a bit in the NFL.

Mallett, on the other hand, is garbage in that situation.

You were ready to pounce on this, huh Mr. Scot?

It's a topic. This is a message board. The links all come from the same source. What do you want?

Should I only post happy, shiny things about Newton?

(we've already got people for that)

Hey look, it's a Cam Newton thread!

In it, you'll find:

- Indefinite statements about how Cam might not be worth the #1 pick.

- Scoffing at somebody or trolling the OP or anyone else who is pro-cam.

- Somone helping with the scoffing.

- Someone else Giving refereces to other analysts opinions, usually about other players.

I've yet to see any of you give any sort of reason to draft anyone else. Even if we "Trade Down", WHO are we trading down for? There's a good chance none of the better players in the draft will be around if we "trade down".

Consider this my final reply to the Cam-hate-club...

Game's over chumps. We've had the media workout... we've had the combine... we've had the Pro day. There's no other big time opportunity to show what he was or wasn't made of.

And through the whole process, he's risen from a "2nd rounder" prior to Luck not declaring, to the #1 overall on several analysts mock drafts.

If he was a disaster, or as big a "project" as was claimed about him, his draft stock wouldn't have changed. Several top Analysts wouldn't be saying all the positive things about him.

From here on out, pending a definite statement from Rivera or Hurney to the media about who is going #1 overall, the debate is over as far as I'm concerned. We need a QB. Hurney's said it. Rivera has said it. April 28th, we'll have the best seat in the house to find the best one rising from the college ranks. Right now, that QB is Cam Newton #2 - Auburn - Heisman Trophy winner, BCS Champion.

Fortunately our new HC gets it. Why you folks don't, well... to each their own I guess.

Gabbert's rated higher because he didn't throw at the combine. In fact, he's done little to nothing since declaring for the draft. Everything about him is speculation at this point simply because he's not opened himself up to the pre-draft process. Newton has been in a position for his flaws to be revealed; Gabbert hasn't because he hasn't thrown. That doesn't mean those flaws aren't there.

There's the whole establishment expectation of what a franchise #1 pick overall QB is supposed to "be" too.

He will throw at his Pro day. In all honesty workouts really don't matter that much. I mean how often is a game played in shorts and a t-shirt?

This is not true. The combine did not expose flaws in Cam Newton nobody knew about. It just showed what many already knew.

Likewise, Gabbert is rated higher not because he didn't throw at the combine (only some people flip flopped at all after the combine), it's because some people like what they see of him on tape.

Actually, teams and scouts that had Gabbert rated higher generally did so based on game film. That was known before the combine.

It not changing is no shock.

Edit: Mav beat me to it.
