Just honestly curious, what are you basing this off of?? Gut feel or something else?? Sincere curious question.

I still don't think Cam will have all these teams to just falling over each other to try and trade for him. If he is that good why would we not take him ourselves?? It doesn't make a lot of sense.

I am having a hard time with some of you guys that keep saying "It is clear he isn't worth the overall pick so lets trade him to these other teams that are just as desperate as we are for a QB that will trade multiple picks just to get him."

Either he is good enough to be drafted that high or no one will want trade for him. I realize that people will grade him out differently from team to team but with first round QBs you usually don't see them vary as much as other positions. Guys may fall, but usually go near the order they were projected to go. Sometimes they don't go as high as they were projected, but in order.

I just don't see it. If it turns out he is that good, we will likely draft him.

If a team feels like he will be a franchise QB but we don't that's how.

I get it. I've said all along that a smokescreen wouldn't surprise me. I think it's kind of both, actually. They're legitimately interested in taking Cam, but would probably accept a trade down offer if someone stepped up, so what they're doing with Cam works for either scenario.

That said, I think they realize the chances of anyone offering anything are slim to none and, as a result, are also scouting Cam intensely because they are very interested in him. I've said since mid-February that I think, outside of some screw-up between now and draft day, that Cam is our pick.

If I thought trading down was a realistic option, I'd be all for it. But one team has been able to trade the 1st pick in the last 10 years (Eli/Rivers) and in MUCH stronger draft classes than this one. Why would we suddenly be any more able to do so in what is considered a weaker draft class?

This just in:

First, obviously Rivera likes the guy. But his meetings with him could be happening to try to increase Newton's likelihood of being drafted at #1 in order to generate interest in a trade.

The smoke screen at #1 thing goes like this:

1) We want to generate interest in the #1 pick to potentially get a nice trade from someone else. It's not that we want to fool people into passing on a guy, totally the opposite.

2)In order to do this, though, someone needs to actually think we'd take the person they want, or they'd just trade with Denver or someone after them.

3) So in the case of Cam Newton, we talk about him. A ton... but of course, we also do our homework on him, because hey, maybe he is the guy we take. Either way, you make sure teams know you're considering it.

2) Therefore, if a team wants to have a guaranteed shot at Newton, they're going to need to trade with us to get him.

the ideal situation is that the team does enough research into him that they determine that he would be a solid #1 pick and they feel that their coaching and his work ethic and base of talent is enough to help him become the franchise QB they want, because we absolutely want him if the team believes they can help him grow to reach his potential.

if that isn't the case, then the most ideal situation is for some team who is likely to have a low pick next year to want to trade up and for us to take nothing less than their first and second this year and next years first.

i wouldn't take any trade offer that didn't include this years 1st and 2nd and next years first. that is the bare minimum i would take, but even then, there is no guarantee at all that we will have access to the top couple QBs in the draft next year. luck and barkley aren't going to make it past #5 next year.
