i take two things from this workout, as someone who is honestly a cam newton fan but not sure if he is the right fit at #1:

1. he's still not consistently accurate. "work in progress" is both the most used and most apt description of his touch on medium and short throws. it doesn't seem particularly complicated to me to fix, but then again i'm not paid to do this and i'm not the one who's going to be trying to fix them. the fact is he's not there yet. the arm is there and he is dead-eye accurate often enough (especially on deep throws) that you can believe he will put it together and be dependable and consistent. but that is down the road.

This reminds me so much of how I viewed Freeman coming out of KSU... But, I could be wrong, but from what I remember of watching him in college, he seemed to me to have a big arm, strong, mobile, and fairly accurate but wasn't consistent on shorter throws... I can live with that.

The way I'm looking at it... I loved Jake for his intangibles, his leadership, etc., and in his prime, he was a pretty damn good QB. Not elite, but in the Top 10 at one time. That being said, he had none of the real physical tools that Cam has. Also, Jake was at best around a 60% comp. pct. guy. Yet, we won more often than we lost with him, and had it not been for injuries and at times poor coaching, we would've won a lot more.

So I hope Cam is the pick. His talent is a once in ten years type of deal. If we pass it up and see him blowing the league up 2-3 years down the road I will never forgive our front office. I can deal with taking the chance and him not turning out to be a superstar because at least I know we tried.

gabbert's numbers at the combine were not all that far behind newton at all. Gabbert is a pretty beastly athlete in his own right as well.

Yeah, he actually surprised me with his combine #'s, but he didn't dominate in his collegiate career, and from what I have seen of him in actual games, I don't know that all those numbers translate to on the field ability. But, that's just IMO.

what if we took cam and gabbert ended up being the dude in 2-3 years? would you be mad at them then?

hoenstly, I will not be pissed at the FO if they take either QB, because i know they are finally trying to get their shit together and get someone to play under center.

Disagree, he was good, but missed on too many throws to be very good to whatever degree.

He did better than at the combine, so Teeray, don't blame the wind. It probably helped him.

He is still rough. The announcer said one thing that I agreed with: He could be questionable with the top pick but a steal at the fifth pick. Maybe so.

I read on PFT that Rivera was all over Cam before the workouts, of course, the picture and story came from Darin Gantt. I think they had to dry the field from DG's slobber.

I am OK if CN is the way we go, but we will reach to get him. Rivera could be hyping Cam for a trade down too, so I will not read much into today. When they discus it, they will agree that he has a long way to go.

I gotta say though...TRD is completely full of crap if he actually believes that this kid can't improve. This guy has great feet, and there is absolutely no reason why he can't be much much better by the time he finishes his first TC.

Get the *** outta here with that. I never said he can't improve, not once. I simply said he is raw and needs to improve.

If you can't read that's your fuking problem but don't put words in my mouth. I've been very fair to Cam for the most part.

I've repeatedly stated if Rivera and so on like him, I'd be more than happy to have him. I've repeatedly stated that his raw tools are insane and just needs some fine tuning. I've repeatedly stated that his NFL tools aren't where they need to be and there are some things to be concerned about.

I couldn't care less if people call it a reach. They will most likely say that about Gabbert too. When you don't have another pick until the 3rd round and you need a QB though, you gotta do what you gotta do. You can't just assume that Kaepernick (sp?) or some other QB the Panthers have high on their board will be there in the 3rd, or that drafting Luck or Barkley will be as simple as just deciding you want them next year. In fact, if Luck is as good as they say, then trading up will not even be a possibility.

You said that he can't change from the way he played at Auburn (in your opinion, of course, as you brag about your credentials), which is exactly the same as saying that he can't improve. I stand by my statement.

Why I liked about Cam today was the spin on the ball. He didn't throw any ducks. He was consistent enough for me, especially since he threw so many passes. Footwork and release looked perfect. If he keeps working definately should be the first pick, he has too many intangibles. He's a winner and has tiger blood.
