Ram Question

The Saltman

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a desktop computer and had a question about memory. I kept the memory how it was which is 6 GBs of memory because upgrading it with dell is ridiculously priced when I could get it from Crucial.com. I want to at least keep the initial ram that I own and maybe buy 2 sticks of 4gbs. What I want to know is do all the slots have to be paired with 4 gbs? or can I just buy the 2 sticks of 4 and keep two slots with 2 gbs in it?

Hope that makes sense.

ps. Yes I bought a computer from dell and didnt build one, sue me.

For dual channel i think you need the same amount but otherwise you should be able to mix and match.

If you have 6 gigs in there i doubt it is in 2 x 3 gig sticks you would only have room for one more stick .

ok I shouldnt have even made this thread.

I just looked at the order and it says this:

6GB DDR3 SDRAM,1333MHz, 2x2GB+2x1GB

so im just going to remove the 2 sticks of 1 and install 2 sticks of 4.
