Actually a big deal. Now his 3.6 has to count towards the cap on the Feb 27th cutoff. Making the numbers even tighter trying to sqeeze in Peppers' tag, Gross' extension, etc. Restructuring Jake could save a lot but time is running out.

You know what, I wouldn't be surprised if the Panthers franchise Peppers but wait to extend Gross after midnight after the first day of free agency. Then Gross wouldn't count against the cap. Unfortunately, he could easly walk also. I'm pretty sure you can't have a contract agreed on but hold off on signing it just for cap space planning.

I really doubt we franchise Peppers without locking up Gross first unless we aren't serious about keeping him. If he tests the waters he will be gone. Players don't test the waters unless they are looking for a chance or feel they aren't getting a good deal with their current team. I know Gross says he wants to stay but he said they were pretty close to signing a year ago and little has happened. I don't know if that is the truth or he is blowing smoke. At any rate if we want to keep Gross and Peppers we can do it and still get under the salary cap even if we have to keep Johnson until March. I wouldn't be surprised if we reach an injury settlement although I don't have a clue about how that affects the cap. I really don't know if this is a game of chicken or we really aren't serious about keeping Gross. Otherwise we should be able to get something done. At this point if the money is right the rest should and ought to be worked out.
