Perspective on Blaine Gabbert

It could have been CAM-like and his stock would have dropped.

So when you are scared you might fail, run away?? That isn't a competitor.

But i was just kidding I could care less if he threw. Just wanted to throw a barb out there :D

That's pretty much exactly how I feel about him.

Everything you talk about is going to be attacked by the nut-huggers unless it embraces Cam. Kinda sad.

About Gabbert--I see why drafting a QB is so hard. He has the measurables, but I hate him on film.

I smell bust in him.

Where is this "film" you speak of? If you mean highlights on youtube and you are referencing them as film then you have been dropped a few times as a child.

I have to say the more I hear about him the more I like him. Unlike most people on this board I actually understand why his stats arent as good this year as opposed to 2 years ago. This season he lost his top wide receiver, the one guy who could actually stretch the field. so as a result he through a lot of underneath routes. He just didnt have the players who could go up and get the ball.

but I didnt know about his work ethic and the more I hear the more he seems like Matt Ryan. Although I dont love Matt Ryan or think he is a fantastic QB, I still think he is better than anything we have and I really think Gabbert could be the future of the franchise.

I can't shake the feeling that he is only rated high because of lack of QB depth in this draft class. I think he would have been a 3rd round pick in last years class.

I don't think so. He probably would have been the second quarterback taken.

I've typically thought Mayock does more research than most guys, but check this out:

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-path-to-the-draft/09000d5d81eaa476/Grading-Cam-Newton-s-pro-day?module=HP_cp2

Specifically starting at 1:15

Gabbert doesn't seem to talk much about what preparations he made going through college for the pros, so I'm not surprised Mayock doesn't know about it.

Plus there's a big difference between working off the field with a coach and playing in the offense.

Yeah...it ground my gears momentarily :cornut:

Though I'd like to add that these private workouts are done by most top draft prospects (Newton used the same guy that worked to rehabilitate Akili Smith's career & prep Big Ben's return). The thing is, Gabbert has been working on this since the age of 15. The primary focuses revolve around timing, footwork, and balance while surveying the field. I'm just saying this b/c of my own personal experience with some O-linemen from Wisconsin & VT. Not QB, but you get the picture

  • 2 weeks later...

while I probably count as a Gabbert nuthugger despite not wanting to draft him #1 (since I like him more than Cam Newton), I was impressed with what I've seen of his footwork.

I do not think he will have trouble making the jump to NFL reads either. It is possible he is a bit less of a project than I thought, but I'd still rather go D, even though the idea of drafting offense is "exciting."

i am not really high on Blaine Gabbert, but the only reason is because i really dont know much about him. his numbers at Missouri werent pretty, but he does seem to have the skills to be good. Newton has shown the on the field skills to be great, but i just worry about Newton too much, personally, i rather have Gabbert or Locker over Newton, but i see the panthers taking Newton, Rivera seems to love him
