With #1 pick in NFL draft Carolina Panthers select

Think abou this... Jets were gonna pick Peyton Manning with #1 pick, Manning decided to stay in college to finish up his degree. Jets ended up using their #1 overall pick to select WR Keyshawn Johnson. Dejavu?

And how did that turn out for the Jets?? Yeah they got themselves a very good to great WR but no championships and I dont think many playoff appearances with him either. Drafting AJ Green is not going to net the Panthers a franchise QB. I guess maybe if the Panthers keep passing on them in Rd 1, one will just fall into our laps some other way :sosp:

I don't want any of the QB's in this draft. They all suck.

Blaine Gabbert = Joey Harrington

Cam Newton = Jamarcus Russell.

The comparision to Newton and Russell has been well documented and discussed on this board. There is none. Bottom line is if Hurney, Rivera, etc think Cam can be a franchise QB they will pick him #1.

Ha! Everyone wants Cam Newton... When did Hurney pick someone that huddle wanted by majority vote? Never. Hurney drafted Clausen in 2nd round of last year, he will not give up on him after one year. Neither Newton nor any other QB in the draft worth to be #1 overall.

I agree with you.

To those who for whatever reason think a 5'9" 32 year old WR (I'm saying this as a big fan) can garner additional picks in the 2011 draft of VALUE are dreaming. Smith IMO is at best gonna bring in a 4th or 5th.

Santonio Holmes-5th

Randy Moss-4th

Both those guys have had better numbers the last few seasons, I'm not sure why people think Smith can bring us valuable pick/s. Best thing to do is ride out his contract and let him do whatever once it expires. We keep a receiver who still draws double coverage, opening up the middle for Shockey, and keeping the 8th defender out of the box.

I'd rather have a good WR then a bust QB. Newton is no Andrey Luck. What is one thing Andrew Luck, Matt Ryan, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Payton Manning have in common? They can read defenses like an open book. Newton struggles in reading defenses and when he does, he runs... This poo aint gonna cut it in NFL.

Plus he and Fairley both went to Junior College, both have off the field problems, which makes me question their work ethic and character. We all remember the last player that had concerns with work ethic and off the field issues:

So are you an NFL GM, Coach, Scout??? I am guessing no. Lets leave it up to the people who actually do that for a living to determine whether or not Cam can transition and be a successful QB in the NFL.

Santonio Homes was bought for a 5th because of drug and off field problems. Smitty has neither.

Moss was bought for a 4th because of lack of motivation and we saw in Oakland what happens when Moss isn't motivated. Smitty is never unmotivated.

I think Smitty could get us a 3rd, maybe late 2nd if we actually were to trade him. I really don't see that happening though. There's be absolutely ZERO indicator that either he wants to be traded or that the team wants to trade him.

Rather get a 4th or 5th now than nothing later. Besides, don't know if we'll have another chance to pick a WR of Greene's caliber that can be the new #1 or at least #2 right away.

I won't believe we will actually take Newton until I hear his name called out. The Panthers never take the player I want so why should this be an exception.

After years of not taking a quarterback at all, to taking 2 with our highest pick in back to back years would be a huge turnaround from business as usual. It would also suggest that Fox was the driving force preventing us from doing it in the past not Hurney.

If it between a largely worthless fifth rounder now or keeping him for 2 years and him retiring a Panther, there isn't a choice at all. Of courrse you keep him. What fifth rounnder have we ever gotten worth a damn.

Hangartner? Cooper? Carter? Rosario?? King?? Barnidge?

Compared to even a declining Smith, none of these guys come anywhere close.
