Yas: Why the Carolina Panthers are relevant

This.

I love this about our team.

It was the only way it would work. The region supports the Panthers, not Charlotte. If it were up to Charlotte, the Panthers would have never been. the UFL didn't want any part of Charlotte. Richardson knew this and he knew that it would take selling PSLs to prove that the region could support the team. His business sense was excellent and I believe the Carolina Panthers were the first team from a region rather than a city, I may be wrong there, but between that and PSLs the Panthers became a reality, not to mention a stadium that is privately funded.

I will always credit Richardson with his business savvy and dedication to the Carolinas...I just hope it doesn't cost him in the end....he was set up to be the villian and he did a very good job during the CBA negotiations.

I've met people from England, Ireland and South Africa while travelling abroad who knew who the Panthers were. Again, it's not me who is narrow minded, it's the people in Florida.

Yes, I have driven by the Dolphins stadium several times. I don't know the areas name but I know it's a little bit North of Miami just off a freeway that comes off of 75?

Turnpike.

Point is, people just don't care that much about teams that aren't theirs and typically know little about the region or the fans unless they have been to more than a handful of games.

The NFL fans perception of the Panthers is steoryotipical (SP)....kind of like your perception of FL people being narrow minded and many believe they are unable to cast votes correctly too...

It's funny because most people consider the Skins and Cowboys "relevant" but when was the last time the Skins or Cowboys won anything of significance? (like the NFC championship).

Yes, I realize both these teams won multiple SB championships, but how long ago was that?

This is the kind of comment that shows how warped Carolina fans perception of the Panthers is...you really just compared the Carolina Panthers franchise to the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys? Wow.

I am 100% a Panther fan, but once you leave the region you get perspective and the perspective is, the Carolina Panthers really are not that relevant. Who cares. The franchise is 14 years old and has enjoyed some success, be happy about it, but don't fool yourself into believing that the franchise actually compares to a major market franchise like Washington or Dallaswhen it comes to relevance. It doesn't mean we don't compete, but really, nobody cares about the Panthers except the Panthers' fans. Please.

The history of my team starts in 1995. So when I make comparisons, I go back to 1995 and start there. Year zero. The Redskins and Cowboys have sucked ball sack in the history relevant to the Panthers. Anything BC (Before Carolina) can choke on a turd. It doesn't matter to me.

So, my perspective on the Skins and Cowboys? F*ck them. They have sucked during the Panthers existance. Cowboys have been to as many super bowls as the Panthers since 1995.

The Pats are from a region. But what about states too? Some are as big as "Carolina".

You could say the same for the:

Bills

Bengals

Jaguars

Titans

Texans

Cardinals

Lions

Rams

Seahawks

Actually, I grew up a Skins fan and lived a good portion of my childhood in the DC area while my parents worked federal jobs, so I have an excellent perspective on other teams and how the Panthers are viewed outside the region... and yes, I just compared the Panthers to the Skins and Cowboys in terms of relevance.

It's been 19 years since the Skins accomplished anything of note and 16 years since the Cowboys accomplished anything of note... both of which pre-date the very existence of the Panthers. So the Skins and Cowboys are more relevant because they won championships 19 and 16 years ago?

If you are arguing current relevance, then you would have to argue the Panthers are more relevant than either of these teams at the moment.

For the most part, yes. The Rams have a following in LA. The Cardinals have a follwing in St. Louis. The Titans have a following in Houston. The Bills have a following due to their years of AFC dominance.

The Jaguars, Texans, Seahawks, Bengals, Lions are definately in the same boat as Carolina. I would throw Tampa and some other smaller market teams in there too.

Accomplishments have nothing to do with relevance. The skins and cowgirls have a national following and always will. They are extremely relevant to the NFL. I dare say that most NFL fans wouldn't even know if the Panthers stopped having a team in the NFL, but if the skins or cowgirls closed up shop, the NFL world would be rocked.....

Again. The Panthers have been the better team the last 14 years, but that doesn't make them relevant to the rest of the league. Period.
