Filling Needs through Free Agency, Trades, and the Draft

and about the nameless qb: I see his upside and am tempted myself. I have actually decided that i am glad this isn't my decision and i am going to support the players we bring in regardless. If "he who shall not be named" becomes a star, i will not be surprised. If he busts, i will not be surprised either. I can tell you one thing: The next seven weeks are going to be very interesting.

QB: Sign a FA, develop Clausen behind that FA, Moore can compete

WR (assume Smith is traded): We are keeping SS, draft Titus Young (3rd round steal); if he isn't avail, get his teammate Austin Pettis.

DT (do we need 2?): FA and draft

DE: mid round draft

OL (consider depth needs): FA

CB: Draft PP, bring back Marshall (for depth)

TE (Is Shockey enough--Barnidge the only other TE on the roster): Shockey, Rosario

LB: Draft or pick up a vet

I would still sign MSW absolutely. As much as I'm encouraged by the progress of Lafell and Gettis I'm not sold on either one of them being a full time number two wr just yet just because of consistency.

AJ Green while immensely talented would still be a rookie and have a learning curve, same fore Julio. Simms-Walker while still young would give us a proper veteran presence who understands how to break the jams and get into and out of breaks on the NFL level. We could take care of business on either side of the field. Then depending upon defensive matchups we could either work Gettis in the seams, or Lafell on the underneath stuff. I suppose a lot of it hinges on a rookie salary cap and how much money the FO is willing to spend at the WR spot.

But I can't imagine Shockey agreeing to play here unless Rivera promised a quarterback and some help.

I like these ideas a lot for the most part. If you drafted Green, would you still sign Sims-Walker?

If SS is traded (which I really hope he isn't but I'd like to see him with a ring before he retires) then I think we should consider drafting Mike Sims-Walker it would be nice to still have a veteran at the wr position

QB: (FA or Trade) Bolger, McNabb, or keep Moore. Draft Newton #1

WR: Smith stays, Draft BPA 5-7 Austin Pettis would be nice if he falls

DT: One FA and One Draft BPA 3-4

DE: Cut Brayton and Tyler Draft BPA 5-7 might bring in a cheap vet for depth

OL: Draft BPA 3-4 needs depth and health

CB: Draft BPA 3-4 (should have a comp pic)

TE: Cut King keep Rosario

K: Draft 5-6 Alex Henery 3 kickers is crazy cut Lloyd and Baker keep Kasay to mentor

Would like to get a Punt Returner to "compete" with AE.

Get a TE in next year's draft if needed.

No to Volec (too old), Young (too suicidal), or Kolb (too average) for QB.

Clowney and Wright should be cut.

Opinions. There are basically three ways to accomplish this task. Trade, sign a free agent, or the draft. Feel free to share opinions below.

How should we meet the need at:

Draft-what round? and a name or two to target

Free Agency-who and how much would you offer? (including our own)

Trade- Who and what in terms of draft picks/players would you offer

QB:

WR (assume Smith is traded):

DT (do we need 2?):

DE:

OL (consider depth needs):

CB:

TE (Is Shockey enough--Barnidge the only other TE on the roster):

QB: Clausen, moore, Palmer/Volek

WR: Why would we assume this? With smith... pat. without him, draft. nobody in FA is going to be better than smith.

DT: We actuatlly need 3. sign a NT in FAs Draft a UT and NT in with 3rd rounder and 3rd round comp.

DE: we don't need any DEs. Where is this coming from? not in our top 8 needs for sure.

OL: 5th rounder

CB: peterson

TE: were good with shockey.

CB/KR: Rodgers from Richmond in the 6th.

yes 3 kickers is crazy, but we're not cutting kasay ever, and Henery can't punt in the NFL. he was a very good college punter, but can't punt well enough for the NFL. cutting Baker (one of the best punters) for henery would really hurt our special teams

Alex Henery is interesting. He could KO and punt (?) until Kasay retires. "A kicker in the draft?" some will can you crazy, but it saves a roster spot this way. Long term, great value. In fact, he could kick the 50+ field goals too.

FYI. Clausen will not be the starter next year period. Clausen is not a vertical passer and doesn't remotely fit into our new offense. He is and was the perfect mold for Davidson's offense and he failed miserably there. Weis and Davidson are buddies and the only reason the Clausen is a Panther is because of his experience in Davidson's offense. Clausen can't do what Chud needs.

If we don't pick up a FA, then Moore will be the starter. I really believe that tender means a lot even though everyone else was tendered. Moore apparently has more value than I had given him. Maybe Chud believes he can use the guy in a vertical passing game?

We are not going to draft a QB with the first pick. It's a smokescreen....LOL. We are baiting Buffalo, Cincy and Zona into a trade senerio. That's all there is to it. Whoa...I can't see....too much smoke! :cornut:

Henery doesn't rate as a pro punter

If I'm Hurney or Rivera, I only trade Smith if the dominoes are already in place to grab a solid FA WR after he's traded. While their isn't anyone on the market that is better individually it might afford us the opportunity to still be balance on offense, and actually stop the run on D.

I'd have a conversation with Simms-Walker first, before I made the move.
